Mount recommendations for a 700 classic

Congratulations to me - I just traded for a 700 classic chambered in 7mm/08. I don't know if this gun was ever shot. If it was it was taken really good care of. There were no tale tale signs of brass in the bolt face. I would rate it at 98% easily. The wood is darker than most walnut you see, but not too dark by any means. And talk about a nice trigger . . . I have to guess it's around the 2 lb. mark - just right for a hunting rifle. Any way, I have a scope, but need a base and rings. I'm partial to Burris Z-rings. What base would someone here recommend for this rifle?
Thanks,
v/r

frankly i would go for the burris dual dovetail bases, and a set of matching burris signature series rings.

On my 700 vls varmit rifle I opted for Leupold one piece bases and rings. Burris does make a great set of mounts. I would make sure they are once piece base, steel and match the rings. JMHO

I would recommend duel dovetail bases and Burris Signature rings. I prefer the Burris Signature rings because the spherical inserts self align so no bending forces are applied to the scope tube they also never leave marks on scope.

My second choice would be the Leupold rings functionally they work great and have never failed me. However, they will often leave a mark on the scope tube. If you mount the scope and don't move it this is not a problem.

I would avoid Millet rings. It has been many years but unless things have changed Millet rings have ridges inside which result in reduced contact area between the scope and the ring. I have used these rings twice, once on a M70 .300 Wby mag and once on a S & W M29, in both instances the scopes slid back in the rings after less than 50 rounds losing zero and damageing the scope finish. Millets response was that I should epoxy the scopes into the rings.
