Gamo Shadow trigger improvement possible?

The Gamo Shadow is a pretty good shooter for the money and the reason for the low price is probably that not much work was done on the trigger. I have a Beeman R-7 and I guess it's unfair to compare the two but the trigger pull on the Shadow is extremely heavy and about the only way I can shoot it with much accuracy is to have a good rest. I've never done a trigger job on anything because I figured I'd just mess it up. Can anything be done to this short of taking it to an air(gunsmith)? Should I leave well enough alone?

I've never messed with a Gamo, but sounds like the trigger is easily enough changed.

Thanks for the information. This will make an inexpensive gun still inexpensive. I just saw your toys and they are nice! People outside the air gun world can't believe they cost that much but when you look at them and shoot them it's easy to see that the same attention to detail on firearms is present in these high dollar air guns.

My guns include a Webley Tempest, Gamo Compact great trigger on this pistol but an airgunsmith worked on it for me. (1lb pull or less) R7 and the Gamo Shadow.
I get the air gun itch about once a year for a week or two then I go to something else but I almost purchased one of those compressed air guns during the last itch. Is it PCA Pre Compressed Air? Good looking guns?

Yes PCA, pre-charged/compressed air

Pcp- pre-charged pneumatic

They are expensive toys for sure. Everytime I shoot, which is several hundred shots a week during nicer weather, The overall feel and quality of the rifles gives me a warm and fuzzy feeling. Thats something I just don't get with a rimfire- and I've spent time with some of the nicer ones.

I don't see how you can enjoy that Gamo after firing your R-7! The trigger is just soo nice on them. I've fired a Gamo before, that trigger they use is rough to say the least. Its possible they could become a nice shooter with a new trigger/tune. I've seen guys make other low cost rifles, Chinese models and such shoot pretty respectable with some work.

I got the Gamo Shadow a few months back. Mainly for my son. I never noticed anything as far as the trigger to be honest. But then, it's an air gun, I didn't/don't expect much either. There are quite a few other things on my wish list. But I wouldn't mind picking up one of those GRT-III triggers for the Gamo Shadow I have. Once the weather breaks around here, another month, month and a half (YUCK) I'll try to remember this when I/we go to shoot it and see just how that trigger is. I honestly never paid much attention to it when I/we first got it.

Let me tell you a little about my R7 and how I got into air guns. A heavy snow fell one night and my work place was shut down the next day. Here we have a Bargain Post (anything and everything for sale paper). I looked in the gun section and saw a Beeman R7 for $40 dollars. I didn't know anything about air guns other than I had heard of Beeman and a reputation for quality. I called the man who had it and I went over to look at it. It was mint condition! He "dry fired" it to show me it worked. I didn't think much about that because I had always done that with bb guns. Any way no harm was done and I bought it. Obviously he had no knowledge of air guns because he dry fired it and sold it for $40. I was pretty shocked when I started reading about the new cost of this gun and how smooth it is to shoot and its accuracy. It is hard to shoot the R7 and then go to the Gamo because of the trigger and the severe vibration of the Shadow. I got the Shadow so I could just leave it in my back seat of my pickup and not have to worry about scratches. It's also pretty good for reaching out a little farther on a farm pond to pop a turtle or two. Seriously this gun is a good shooter. When I get that trigger it might be a very good shooter. The Shadow is the last gun I've bought. The Tempest and Compact were bought after the R7.

Someday you may shoot an air gun that's a little pricey and you'll be able to tell the difference. The quality will be apparent. Air gunners talk about the R7 so much is because there is hardly no vibration but that can be attributed to being 300 feet per second slower than the 1000fps shooters. I'm not what you would call a true air gunner because I'm still a novice and still prefer guns that shoot bullets but I have a genuine respect for air guns and how they are manufactured. If you would have a contest at short range (10meters) with professionals shooting air vs ammunition I would probably put my money on the air gun. That gun you bought for your son is going to be a good one. I remember buying my daughter a Diana (RWS) youth gun when she was 6. We shot in the garage at candles at 17 feet and she would put the fire out almost every time and that was the first night she ever shot. When we went to the range I would put up shell casing for her to shoot while I sighted in my guns. No matter how you slice it shooting is fun!

I do agree on feeling a vibration. Only had this one not even a year, just got it late summer of '07. I just wanted it because it was reasonable, came with a scope and wanted to teach my son to shoot and teach him safety and how to use a scope.

Hell, I need to learn more scope use as well. I love scope shooting, just not good at it. lol But I may look into this trigger fix. Again, for $32 bucks + S&H, what the heck right...

29er--- Quit sending me things about new toys! Just kiddin! I just went to Air Gun Depot and watched a video on the Discovery. Heck of a deal on a pcp. I'm not having my air gun itch at this time but the Discovery will be one I'll look at when I start scratching. I tried to send that video but I'm just not computer savvy enough to pull it off. I could send it to Outlook express but not this forum.

I just picked up a Gamo Big Cat from Academy Sports for $118. It has the same balistics as the shadow. I was wondering if that GRX trigger will fit my rifle? I've never seen the Big Cat but the salesman told me the special Discovery did on air guns was used in that special. Any help.

Rick, Check the link that Binford supplied for us about the trigger

I just checked the site and it didn't list the Big Cat specifically but it did say all late model production Gamo's so I'm not sure. You might have to call. The review by that one air gun expert sounded pretty good to make it a good shooter.
