ITHICA 1911 (WHAT CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT IT?)

My brother ran across an Ithica 1911. Neither one of us has ever seen or heard of one. Can anyone give me feedback and average price? Thanks

Ithaca Mfg. M1911a1 pistols for the WW2 Military Contracts, Original...it should be parkerized.
100% shape books at 800.00 , 98% books at 600.00, 90% books at 450.00...
If it has the original shipping carton...add 20%....
I have a list of Serial Number Ranges for those guns....

ITHACA made the M1911A1 in WW2. The name is only on the slide. Thus you can be confident the slide is at least an Ithaca. Someone with M1911 experience could examine it, and checking the serial number range see if it falls in the Ithaca,Colt, or Remington Rand ranges. Value depends on whether it was rebuilt, re-finished, has a mixture of parts...etc. Value on very low end could be $400 while approaching $1000 for a clean original.Several close photos would help.

Ithaca .45's are somewhat rare and if this one is in
top quality condition you may very well find collectors
ready to pay top dollar in competition with one another.
Please furnish more info on the condition as this is pivotal
to the value.

The guy hasn't decided on a price yet. He said he did research the numbers and it was sent here in the 1940's. He said it was made by colt and in original condition. Thats all the info I have for now. I will keep you posted.

It's very possible it's a "mixmaster", a gun that was assembled out of rebuilt parts after the war. Not uncommon to find a 1911 with a Colt frame and an Ithaca slide, or vice-versa, or a Remington-Rand frame and Colt slide, and the small parts all mixed up too. Since these guns were made by several contractors to military specs for interchangability of parts, when they were arsenal rebuilt after the war they weren't too concerned about putting them back together with all matching parts. You can even find guns with WWI 1911 frames or slides, and the rest of the parts are WWII vintage 1911A1.

Finding the old ones that are all Colt, or all Ithaca, or all US&S, or all Remington-Rand, that haven't been molested, changed or rebuilt, THOSE are the ones worth big bucks. If you find an original Singer, oh my! They only made 500 of those.

I "work on" lots of vintage 45's and an Ithaca is a find if original! There is lots of info on original configurations. Careful!
