CZ52 Hammer wont strike firing pin

Just bought this great little pistol at the local gun shop/indoor range and when I went to go put some rounds through it I found that the hammer doesnt fall completely. I was wondering what could cause this problem. It is in beautiful condition, stamped 54 and looks to have the original finish but has been swapped out for wood grain grips. I paid 100 dollars and 8 bucks for the ATF call in and got the gun, two mags, 40 rounds and a hard case. The guy who sold it to me says hes gonna pull it apart and see if the safety was put back together wrong? What do you guys think? I think I got a decent deal on it and he said he would attempt to get me another one if he couldnt fix that one or refund my money. Thanks ahead of time.

If it doesn't shoot you probably have a broken firing pin. They break right at the front nipple. Cost is 15-30 dollars to replace. Better pins are available.

You are not supposed to dry fire this weapon because of this design flaw.

To change you push in the half round pin on the inside of the slide and the firing pin just drops out. Of course you field strip the weapon first.

Keep in mind that the hammer is only has a springload until it gets to vertical. It's inerta carries it toward the firing pin.

A hundred is a good price. I paid a couple hundred with 450 rounds and 2 extra firing pins.

C&RFan: Sir; take a pencil with an eraser;
use eraser end;
push eraser end into the barrel until snug against the bolt;
cock gun; hold pencil tight to the bolt; pull trigger; remove pencil;
look at eraser end;
marked means; firing pin; unmarked firing pin broken or gone
will not damage firing pin in anyway

That would be a good plan but needs some refinement. Most pencil eraser ferrules (at least mine are) are around .314", too big for the bore of the weapon.

Of course it doesn't take but a few seconds to strip out a pin and examine it. I am going to run a test right now.

I just timed myself and from dropping the mag, checking the chamber, remove the slide from frame and remove the pin from the slide then reassembly took 35 seconds. I impressed even myself.

I have seen a "smith" set up a trigger on a DAO Taurus with an alumium rod. He would drop the rod down into the barrel and pull the trigger noting how far the rod would jump out of the barrel.

The CZ52 has a very brittle firing pin that is prone to breakage. Suggest you go to Makarov.com. They have a section on CZ52 parts and accessories. They have after market firing pins that won't break. I recommend their "trigger improvment kit" It includes the improved firing pin, Wolff springs and installation instructions. While it does eliminate the firing pin safety, it greatly improves the trigger feel and you stop breaking firing pins. Did this to mine and love the trigger. They also have after market locking rollers for the action and lots of other neet accessories for Communist Bloc weapons.
Welcone to the CZ52 crowd. You will have fun. These things really get attention at a range, especially with hot hand-loads.

Absolutely, I have around 400 rounds thru the weapon so far with no jams and only one misfire that I had to recock the hammer to fire again. How ever this stuff I have is headstamped 1953 and I would say 4 out of 8 casings ejected have hairline cracks. However I have rapid fired the gun and it works flawlessly, I just need to get some new ammo to try for accuracy. Im going to load a bad video of me at the indoor range on Youtube real quick and link it to here. Thanks again.

Glad you got the problem fixed. The CZ-52's are great guns. Don't forget that most of that surplus ammo is corrosive. Clean appropriately!

Yah the stuff I have been using is corrosive, Ive been running ammonia thru the barrel to neutralize it and oiling it with CLP afterwards. No problems so far.
