Bow fishing

I just took one of my old fred Bear whitetail hunter compounds and turned it into a full-time fishing bow! And i gotta say- i am soooo hooked! Again!
About 3 1/2 years ago I started to get back into it and Hurricane Katrina moved me to NC. I spent all day shootin "AT" fish with my boys.
Anybody else into bow fishing out there?

And if ur close to Hillsborough, NC lets hook up this spring and go hit some of these rivers out here. It is seriously some fun!
(after turkey season of course tho!)

I did the same thing this past summer, bought a cheap reel and arrows and got at the carp. It is such a blast. Only problem is the main spot where carp are at is a popular fishing spot in our lake...but its legal so I can deal with some strange looks lol. It is a great time though, only problem being hitting rocks and stuff and losing arrows. But yes I am definitely a bow fishing fan!!

Weird thing is i can hit carp pretty good but not much else with my bow lol....

I was wondering bout the lake thing here too. I know a lil lake/pond with some big big catfish in there. but its got a walkin trail around it. all kinds of kids fish there, maybe ill go get there interests up in archery. My kids freak out when we do anything with our bows. Im up to 7 bows now! i love it! my buddy just got a diamond, that thing is soooo small n light. 74#s and pulls back like my old bear at 45! if that!

When I was a kid (60's) I would take my 40lb recurve solid fiberglass bow with one of those round spools with 110lb braided nylon down to Grand River. When the gates were shut the water would go down to just a few feet in one area and gar would surface and also lie on the bottom. The water sometimes would be crystal clear. I didn't know anything, nobody had ever taught me anything but I had a ball shooting gar. When shooting at gar on the bottom my buddy and I could never seem to hit them. Finally we just started shooting well in front of them and hitting. Light refraction was something we learned about later. Bow fishing is probably what got me into bows and the fun I have shooting bows now is what keeps me in it.

I havent done any bow-fishing but I was watching "Getting Close w/ Lee and Tiffany" the other day. They went to the Illinois river and hooked up with a guide, took a jon boat and prop driven outboard. While moving slowly upstream with 2 bow-fishers at the stern the Asian silver carp would jump high into the air and they would shoot/try to shoot them as they leapt. It looked like a riot it was amazing how many fish would be in the air at one time. It looked like more fish landed in the boat than they shot.

where i go by our lake is a big creek coming out of the spillway right next to the lake, lots of people fish there, lots of walleye and catfish. I only shoot at carp and shad on the surface though so never had to deal with any light refraction of anything like that....
