To buy or to not buy?

Savage model 111 in 300 Win. mag blue/black synthetic with the Accutrigger, and it has a muzzle brake he had put on. Purchased 6 months ago and only one box of shells through it. hmmmm. its on ar15.com and he wants 450 shipped.

I dunno, I have been contemplating getting a 300 win mag.

AR15.COM :: Forums :: WTS-Savage 300 Win. mag.(Price lowered)Trades?

The Savage 111F msrp's for $563 and you could probably find a nib for around the same price as what he's asking. Why is he selling a 6-mo old rifle...doesn't like the 300Mag or did something to it? Is the muzzel brake installed correctly or maybe out of line.
Savage makes awesome firearms that are affordable to own. The accu-trigger is absolutely wunnerful.
Personally, I'd go with their model 110FP (msrp $649) that has a heavy barrel.
BTW, Savage has outstanding customer service also.

Well the guy emailed me back an answer to a few questions I have and he swears that it is extremely accurate. He said he partly worked up a load firing 25 shots with 165gr Nosler BT with 70.0 grains of 4831 IMR-Winchester Brass and WLMR primers. He is selling the gun because he needs the $ to put into another project. He also gave the name of the gunsmith who installed the muzzle brake. Here is a link to the midway gunsmith locator on him.

Quality

Current Savage firearms are enjoying good reviews for quality
of design and quality of production.

If you have not fired a 300 mag I suggest you do so before
making the purchase if possible. Then you will have experience
as to recoil and muzzle blast. I am in no way seeking to discourage
you - just making a suggestion concerning a cartridge that is a
step up from .308's, .270's and similar cartridges.

I went to the ar15.com site and viewed his ad. I would be concerned with the idea that "he needs the money for another project" but is willing to take trades.
I agree with the previous post...shoot a .300 WinMag first. I was at the range this past week-end and a couple husky guys were shooting one, after about 6-7 rounds one of'em gave up. the other finished of the 20 rds before he called it quits. Something to consider.
Not trying to talk you out of it either; it's just some things that make me feel cautious; especially buying a used weapon sight unseen.
