marlin 780?

I was down at the gun shop to day and they had a marlin 780 bolt action rifle. I was in very good condition that if it didnt have a yellow tag I would think its new lol. It uses .22 short , long and long rifle according to the barrel. Does anyone know if a marlin 780 is a good rifle and any one know where I could find some decent info on it before I go pick it up and for what it all comes with is that a good deal?

For 140 cash price it comes with the marlin 780 + a mounted bushnell 4x scope, + 3 7round mags and the box.

I think it is a good deal, as long as it is in the condition as presented.

I have a Marlin 980SQ bolt .22 and it is excellent. Squirrels for miles around shudder and call their therapists every time I open and close the bolt.

My M780 has a seethrough mount so I can use the open sights or use a Bushnell 3x9 scope set for 60yds,And my critters are more afraid than mitch mckee,s are because when I get it out they all hide and the only thing I have to kill is old pop bottles and cans.The only thing I dont care for is you pull the safety back to fire instead of pushing ahead.That is ok except when you have young people using it they pull it back to put the safety on.It dont work that way. sam.

Do you know where I Can find info on the 780 and where I could look at a manual for it since it didnt say it had one on the tag. Also do you know how old the 780 modle is I cant seem to find anyinfo on it any place online. The only thing that comes up on searches is the 7 shot mags for it. I looked on marlins website but they dont have anything that old.

All I see is they were discontinued in 1988. sam.

Hey Thomas, do you still need an owner's manual for the Marlin 780? I've had my 780 since 1976 and love it! It features the Micro-Groove barrel and is very accurate. If you want a copy I'll e-mail it to you. The manual is very small and not much to it. I think I have a schematic also.
