308 Marline express

good day to all thinking about a new white tail gun and have been doing some homework on the 308 marlin express. and so far i'm liking what i read. currently i hunt with a 270 win. bolt. but looking for something differnt.
my dad has a rem mod 600 in 308 win. loved that gun and cal. growing up but lost out my younger brother got it.

dose anyone have one or ahave more info or web sites to get info from.

I don't have one, but after reading a good deal about them i was alittle bummed. They perform almost as good as the 308 winchester, which is good i suppose, but for some reason i don't see the cartridge surviving for long, and for that reason i'm holding off at least for a another year or so.

You can't buy ammo for the rifle anywhere but on the web from what i've seen, and hornady is the only company making ammo for it right now. I believe hornady only loads the with one bullet weight also.

still sounds like a pretty good rifle. I plan on getting one of the xlr versions when i do buy one. I have one in the 444 marlin and it is a accurate sob.
I wish they could make a marlin levergun that would take the 308 winchester that way there would be a guaranteed supply of ammo in different weights.

I am a Lever action fan and wouldn't mind haveing one of the XLR rifles myself, but I would probably buy the 35 Remington model.
Last night I was watching the OutDoor Channel and the Guns & Ammo show came on and beleive it or not the gun test segment was about the XLR 308.
I'm delighted to say it's accurate and they praised it.
If ammo availability is an issue, I wouldn't worry about that, Hornady will always have it and other sites on the Internet, so whats wrong with ordering ammo ?

I will say this and that's Marlin is the worst to drop a line of rifles, but then you have a collector...A.H

like i stated i hunt with a .270win now and love the gun and the cal. but were i hunt its starting to grow up with under brush. and i have always loved the lever gun. and the .308 cal. so was hopeing to finialy get both of my wishes to come true.. think i might wait and see what else pops up and go from there.

I would think you'll probably never see a .308 lever gun for this reason. Almost all, that I know of, .308 ammo commercially available is pointed, and the lever gun makers won't want the liability of chain fires in tube magazines. That's why they have to come up with a different .308 cartridge, so they can't be interchanged.

You may want to give a look at the Browning BLR in .308. There's actually at least 3 or 4 variations....straight stock, pistol grip and SS/lam in both as well, if I'm not mistaken. A very nice rifle.... I've owned several BLRs and have 3 at this time. Good Luck

I am holding out for the 7mmo8 version of the 308 lever action. The 7 x 30 waters was a great round, and I sadly sold mine. I would love to see hornady develop a 25 cal. round as well for the same cartridge. As far as buying the blr, which is brownings lever, it is not really the same as marlin or winchester. It is acurate, it is able to handle Pointed bullets due to it's mag, instead of a tube. the browning is made in Japan, the marlin in the states. The browning is shiney, and shows abuse quickly. Which one would I want? the made in america gun, everytime. If you are worried that your 270 won't shoot in the brush, or the barrel is to long, then any marlin currently made will be fine. Hornady, has expanded the line of Lever action ammo to include several pistol rounds, as well as the 32 win.
