flip sight fastener?

Hi all
On my 1943 Long Branch #4 Mk1* I noticed that the flip style peep sight (300-600 yard range) is attached to the receiver by a piece of what appears to be copper wire. (see pic). What was originally there to fasten the sights? If anyone knows the part name or number, it would be greatly appreciated. I am also looking to replace the missing safety as well....
Many thanks!!!!

The missing piece is a small pin, similar to a Cotter pin.

Numrich Corp. (e-gunparts.com) has it as part #487280 for $1.65.

They also have parts for the safety. Go to the SMLE schematic and you'll find it there.

Good hunting
