truth about ccw license

WHY?? I am fairly new to carrying and am licensed to do so in Georgia.In the last 3 months I have tried my best to find out from city and county deputies the truth about ccw and carrying in general.I have had so many different answers its not funny.Searching the web has become a pastime for me to find the truth,but even there it gets confusing and i'm not sure what I am reading is true.I want to carry and do it legal but it seams the cops are trying to get me not toby lying.Does anyone else feel this way?, and where do I go to find the truth?.Any help will be greatly appreciated.Thanks a lot guys!!

Go to a lawyer that practices in criminal law. He should be able to give you what you need. Then if you have a problem, that's who you go to for representation. Also, try the NRA's website. They should have a link to the correct information for your state... Good luck...

In trying to help find information, I found this and thought you might want or should read it...It pertains to CCW in Georgia...First link to NRA's story on it..
NRA-ILA :: Legislation

And then to the bill it spoke of...
Georgia General Assembly - HB 89

Also, go to this link and click on your state. Opens into a PDF I think so you'll need or have to have Adobe Acrobat...NRA-ILA :: Gun Laws

Also, take a look over at the Georgia forum on OCDO:
Georgia - Stories From The States - OpenCarry.org - Discussion Forum

I only check the Washington State forum, but feel free to stop by there and say hello.

factual

Sport717: Sir; these others are pointing you correctly. Let me ADD;
Georgia, Department of Justice. Commonly called the DOJ.

These will be factual laws with all the ambiguities built in. Sir; carrying with a CC shows and gives factual commitment to your concern with being a 'good' citizen.

T checked this out a few weeks ago, like you spent a lot of time doing it, only to find out that the ccw permits work on a "reciprocity" system. There are 16 to18 states that will recognize an AL or GA ccw permit. There is a lit posted on several sites. I found one on the AL State Attorney Generals website. If another state thinks our rules for obtaining a ccw permit are strict enough they will "reciprocate" (recognize ours if we recognize theirs. The biggest stumbling block to reciprocation is the education aspect, as in FL for instance, whot requires a class and supervised range time(my son got a FL permit last year). But along w/ georgia they still recognize ours. The main point stressed by these recognizing states is if you are approached by a LE officer politely and immediately advise him you are carrying and that you have a ccw permit. This applies to any situation, traffic stops, etc. In the states that dont recognize your ccw DONT CARRY PERIOD! You will lose your firearm do jail time and pay a fine. They say that ignorance of their laws is no excuse and its your responsibility to find out before you carry in their state. Its all a bunch of beaurocratic bullshit. The only thing it takes in AL is go to your resident countys Sheriff and apply, pass an NCIC or ACJIS check, pay the fee and your good to go. Check GAs AG website, you should find the info you need or links to it. Hope I helped and didnt confuse you more. Dont ask a LE officer on the street. Sadly they will try to discourage you by feigning ignorance or by being decietful(Ive done it myself). To them its just another gun on somebodys person they have to worry about.

addendum.......In the states that wont honor your ccw consider this. LE officers cannot do unlawful search and seizures. If your console or glove box locks thats an idea. They cant open a locked compartment without probable cause, and then have to prove out the probable cause in court. If in doubt thats what I would do. Like GlockMeister says, " Id ratner be tried by 12 than carried by six". But do what you feel is right, as Im not a lawyer(makes me gag to even type that word)LOL

If you have a CCW carry where you want with the exeption of goverment building, schools ect. you should be fine if it is concealed and you dont tell any one you have it how they gona know? I am a LEO and thats my attitude about it thugs and gang bangers dont worry about it so if you have a CCW why should you. I would rather carry and never need it than need it and had left it in my truck because I was scared of the little sign at Wal-Mart that said "no guns allowed"
