Walther P22

Okay guys, I know you are out there. Last year I purchased a P22.

I fell in love with the gun immediately due to the way it fit my hand and it's low recoil.

Problem with it was that it wouldn't eject worth a darn and it would only shoot CCI Minimags! When it decided to shoot, it shot spent cartridges everywhere including down my cleavage...yes I am a lady, which won it an immediate trip back to where all Walthers come from.

It came back with a new ejector (heard that there was a silent recall), but I have to admit that it's still touchy about what type of ammo I feed through it and still about it's accuracy depending on what kind of ammo we use in it.

Anybody out there with any similar experiences with Walther P22 and how did you solve the problems.

I have a P-22, and YES, they are very picky on the ammo that will feed through them. It takes quite a bit of the gases from that little .22LR shell to move that slide back all the way and feed another one, therefore it needs high velocity bullets to work right, like the CCI mini-mags. I also use the Remington Yellow Jackets, but since they're hollow points, they tend to get caught up on the feed ramp once in awhile. Best off to stick with high-velocity non hollow-point rounds. Keeping it ultra-clean helps too.

Mine spits the shells right in my face most of the time. I had never heard of the "silent recall" on the ejector, but will be looking into that now! Kinda funky how the slide comes off the gun, huh? LOL. Backwards from most semi-autos.

i guess ill just look elsewhere
i was really interested in it becauase i wanted a 22 that was small an easy to pack
like a modern semiauto not like a ruger

my wifes has been flawless with the bulk ammo it does not like the thunderbolts, waxes up and leads up badly

A qualified Gunsmith should be able to Tailor a Recoil Spring with a little less tension for that pistol to be able to shoot Standard .22 ammo flawlessly...Same as us .45 auto Shooters have to do!

Mine shoots just fine with Federal bulk ammunition (non-hollowpoints) but it's also brand new

Mine is brand new too, it's shot like this since I picked it up in June...good advice MM, I'll take it into my gunsmith and have him take a look-see.

My wifes P22 is also very picky about the ammo. I have heard this a lot about this gun. It is a little crazy with ejecting spent cartridges. I think my wife had one come back and get between her glasses and her face and she got a little burn on her nose from one. I was proud of her that day when that happened. She put the gun down, picked the cartridge out and then finished off the magazine.

I just bought a P22. I first shot it with some cheap ammo I had laying around that was old as well, and it would shoot but it just wouldn't feed the next round. I switched over to CCI mini-mag 40 grain ammo and it has worked very well on it. The gun does seem to be finnicky, but since I've found what it likes I'm happy. The ammo is cheap no matter the brand anyway and its a fun gun to shoot. I love the ergonomics, too, and the overall look of it. Its kind of funny how all this tactical type gear is available for a 22 pistol but its still fun.

using velocitor (hypervelocity) is the only way to go, besides this gun was built around and for the cci.

I bought one early this year in Jan. and i have had zero problems with mine. I have put around 200 rounds through it with no problems and still havent gotten around to cleaning it. i also just went outside and fired a magazine and 9 went high and right, and 1 went straight up, none came at me at all. Best of luck with yours though, i don't really know what could be wrong

p.s. i also use the cheap walmart ammo, its never had 40 grain in it.

Depending on what part of Mississippi you are in is where you can find the best gunsmiths.

On-base armourer at each navy base can usually be hired after hours.

Pensacola is home to Jay's Guns II, which has a Top Quality gunsmith in house. From Laurel, MS it's only a 2 & 1/2 hr drive, about an hour from Biloxi.

Memphis is but a short drive for the northern half of the state.

But there should be someone in Hattiesburg as well

I'm surprised there aren't a LOT of gunsmiths near to anywhere due to the huge amount of hunters in MS...

My g/f was looking at a walther P22 as her #2 choice...and it's the one I'm leaning towards getting her for her birthday...the .22 has always been a good training weapon.

It's good to know that it loves CCI's...I use a lot of those in my Calico...heck, I use a lot of everything in my Calico...hehehe

Are there any special oddities to cleaning a Walther P-22??

Any other weird stuff a normal semi-auto wouldn't have??

I use American Eagle and have never had an issue other than the rear sights coming loose after a minot windage adjustment. I got mine two years ago and my wife got her's last year. We've put several thousand rounds through them with no problems.
A AE's are a lot less expensive then the CCI MiniMags.
I have also used Winchester Wildcat, Remington Viper, and Thunderbolt with no problems. In my experience most semi-auto .22's don't like standard velocity stuff and I've had S&W M-41, Ruger Mk 2, and the Walther P-22.

Yes, the rear sight is held on the slide by the same screw used for windage adjustment. It seems that when an adjustment is made, the rear sight will start to wobble even though the screw is tight. A Walther customer service person told me that a wobbly sight is the way the gun is designed and that all P-22's are that way. I wrote a letter to the CEO and got the sight repaired.
