I have only a guess. The book number I would guess is the stocking number for the firearm in his log book. The other number is probably a code for what he paid for the firearm. The code could correlate to any number of codes. Even one of their own design.

A dealer I knew when I was young would use a number code correlating to letters in RED SAIL OUT. Where the R would equal 1 and the E = 2 etc. So, if he paid 150 for something it would be coded RAT. with the T = 0.

Not much help but...

When I had my motor cycle shop I always coded the tags on sale items..067n would have been n for a sale item 67 bucks but in pawn probably was a pawn loan167PA would have been out right purchase from distributor 167 bucks the pa and the n is pure guess work. I coded it s for sale item and D for distributor and then a letter designating what dealer such as Drag specialties would have been DD ..Same as tex not much help !!

i offered $400 for the .308 then i left from there to look into it. i searched the internets for price quotes (cheapest of course) and wrote them down. i then took an average FAIR number which was $362...ill be offering him $360 then start from there. the only catch is my friend has to buy it so so i can avoid extra charges from the FFL and the stupid permit that you need when buying in MN. im going to the bank now (to get $400 of course, im buying it either way) so ill let you guys know what happened.

p.s. THANKS ALOT GUYS, i appreciate the help!!!

Careful with your verbiage, Some nit-picker might call this a "straw purchase" ? Glad you got what you want, though. Have fun.

Congrats on your purchase!!! Of course we expect pics and a range report.

Of course your friend bought it and sold it to you for a fair price...no?

You know this is illegal and you can go to jail for having someone else buy you a gun to get around paper work? We also do not like that kind of talk here on Gun & Game so please do not talk about illegal Straw Purchases anymore. Rick B

+1

Not to mention it generally makes all gun owners look bad. They tend to bunch us all together.
