| Intro and a No5 Resto ... **pics**
G'day all, New member here old member everywhere else - I'm a member and shooter at the Lithgow Small Arms Rifle club in NSW ( New South Wales); The Lithgow club is the original Lithgow Small Arms Factory rifle range ( 900 yards ) where all Lithgow built rifles were test fired and later became the club for the Factory workers who built them. The Range is today owned by ADI who makes Aussie gun powder and where they still manufacture and test fire all the Aussie Military rifles today. By way of introduction I figured I'd show the results of my most recent restoration. I found this little No5 out west minus it's butt stock and bought it as a project - after tracking down a butt stock and a few other hard to find bits like the butt plate long screws ( donated by a mate ) I got down to some serious wood matching. Before I could do that I stripped the horrible varnish off it and then set to with nothing harder than #0000 steel wool and finished up with about 8 coats of BLO. And here are the results. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Tikirocker; 03-10-2008 at 11:29 AM. |
