| Truck gun I imagine the answer is probably pretty much a yes legal or no "not legal need permit situation" But is it legal to carry a pistol in your vehicle in MS. I sell land, and i am constantly meeting new and sometimes strange people in the middle of no where. I actually met a guy one time. He wanted to ride with me so i cleaned out the passengar seat and he hops in with a ruger 10/22. Said he was wanting to go shoot it while on the property. Needless to say i was a bit nervous. Never seen this guy in my life and now he is in my truck with a rifle wanting to go out in the woods and shoot his gun. ![]() When we got to the property i Pulled out my P95 and said i was needing to do some shootin too. We go walkin off in the woods. "I stay behind him pistol in hand" He comes to a mud hole and fires a few rounds and apparently was satisfied with the gun. I popped off a couple with my ruger and we called it a evening. Guy didn't buy anthing and i believe was harmless, but he easily could have been planning on putting a bullet in me. Needless to say when i'm meeting all these strange new people I like to have a pistol tucked between my seat in case a situation were to arise. I'm going to do it regardless of wheter it's legal or not, but what legal rights do i have. For example if a cop pulls me over and sees a pistol between my seat. Can he fine me or take the weapon? |

| Best course of action is for you to call the Attorney Generals' office near you ! |

| I agree with AKHunter, the laws very so much from state to state. I would call my local Sheriff and ask him, then confirm what he has to say with the state police or talk to your county judge. |

| I'm curious ? Did the guy show any interest in the land, did you hear from him again ? Did he buy or put in a offer ? Does Missisippi have concealed carry permits, if so take the class and you'll for sure be legal...A.H |

| Consult with a local criminal defense attorney. Ask them what happens if you get stopped with a loaded weapon within reach in your vehicle. Ever drive home from the local watering hole with a loaded gun in the car? Do you have a CCW? Who else drives your vehicle? Where do you park it? Is it secure? |

| Biggest problem with a gun in a truck is that they might be seen and since you can't always take it with you while shopping etc, they become a target for easy theft. Now a bad guy is armed. I've found avoidance is the best protection. I would have told the guy to leave the gun in his vehicle or I wasn't going with him. Have you ever told a law enforcment offical you have gun in the vehicle? The first thing they do is draw theirs and point it at you, I don't like guns pointed at me, shit happens. |

I have never drawn my sidearm on someone who told me they had a gun in there car. If they are telling me they are not going to use it on me. I just ask them where it is and 99% of the time I just ask they leave it there and I continue on with whatever I an there for.

Might be a difference in local culture, I don't know. Every other truck has a gun in the back window here and about 1 in 200 Tennesseans have carry permits.

| Senior Member | I tell police officers all the time I have my weapon in my truck with me. I am a federal correctional officer and perfectly legal, but it makes you look like more of a stand up 'honest' person if you tell them. Check your local laws. I am a federal LEO and have been mixed up in this states stupid laws. Oh sorry but I was reffering to the "peoples republic of New Jersey". Last edited by jaeger; 03-12-2008 at 01:28 AM. | Yeah, happened to me once, seen my CCW when I was getting my license out. Asked if I was carrying. I told yes and where it was located. He just smiled, thanked me and continued to write out my speeding ticket... ![]() ***************************************************** All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing |

The guy didn't buy anything. He is what we call a professional looker. He just enjoys riding around wasting peoples property and never buying anything. I've shown the same guy land 2 times and the last time I put him on a sure enough steal. He said he wanted it but never did anything. I eventually bought the property and flipped it in a month and made about 30,000 on it. Guy still calls me every other month asksing if i've found anything for a 1,000per/acre. I keep telling him that he won't find land for that price anymore. Especially if i find it first ![]() Thanks for the info guys I'll see about getting my ccw just to be safe. I'm not worried about the locals, but most the people I show property too are out of New Orleans, and I run across some pretty crazy characters from time to time. A girl we know was almost raped a few weeks ago while walking to her car two older men approached her, and said they needed to talk about some things. She said she was in a hurry and they kept following her. One guy eventually grabbed her by the arm. She tried to pull away, but he wouldn't let go. At that time she put her key between her knuckles and stabbed the guy in the eye with her key. She ran and got the authorities but the guys were already gone.

| I live Jackson MS and i havent had any problems from what i understand from the new castle law they passed its perfectly legal.. I got pulled over the other day by Hinds county Sheriffs Dept. (stupid lead foot). When the deputy approached my truck and asked how i was doing i said "im fine and sir im letting you know i have a loaded gun in the truck with me would you like me to step out of the vehicle?" He simply asked where it was and asked me just to keep my hands in plain sight my reply was "no problem" when he was done runnin my license and registration he gave me a verbal warning for speeding and even THANKED me for letting him know well in advance that there was a firearm in the vehicle as he said have a nice day and drive safely.

| Until you can find out or do anything about it, might want to bring a friend with you huh? lol If you feel threatened. I mean we all know it's a sick world anymore where some will kill ya' for the shoes you're wearing to the 10 bucks in your right front pants pocket. Personally, I don;t blame ya' one bit for thinking the way you do or being concerned. I'd have a nice knife with me at the very least. Maybe even one of those new Kimber pepper gel sprayers.
