Self defense knife angle?

What would you guys say would be a good angle for a self defense knife? I would imagine a little bigger than a kitchen knife. I was thinking some where around a 50-60 degree total angle.

I dont know what you mean by "angle" But statistacly most knife wounds in attack or defense is from kitchen knives.
I teach self defense and have studied krav maga as well as kali techniques and is ofmy opinion there is no such thing as a "self defense" knife. They are a tool of oppurtinity.
If you want a good read on this go to my website under links section is a article called Myth of knifefighting
I could show you in roughly 5 minutes how damaging and likely lethal a swiss army knife is and never open the blade.

im guessing that you mean the angle of the blade when its been sharpened?
in that case i would say as sharp if not sharper than a kitchen knife incase you get cut in the fight, it will be easier for a doc to patch up, also most sd knives are used daily anyways so make that sucker sharp

I like the tanto style for self defense. It just seems like this type of point would drive home pretty easy. Seems to be beefed up too and not easy to snap or break off?

for a fighting knife you cant beat a doulbe edged full tang blade. for get folding knifes. As for sharpness I keep the tips as sharp as possable for the first two inches and then I make it grdualy duller as it gets closer to the handle. Imo the knife is just a tool the person using it is the weapon so worry more about techniqs and less about the blade. I wouldnt think twice about using a butter knife if I had too. As is mentioned above knives are weapons of opertunity even a pen or pencil will work in a pinch.

I like a 20 primary edge and a 15 degree back bevel
