Blackhawk

I am looking at the blackhawks. I really like how they look. I dont think i want to go as big as a .44 magnum. I'm thinking either the .357 magnum or the .45 Colt. Now i also saw that the .45 Colt revolver can be bought as a combo gun and also comes with a .45 ACP cylinder. If anything that would sway we towards the .45 over the .357 magnum. Unless you guys can give me a reason to go with the .357 instead? Oh also rugers website isnt working right now, what is the price of those guns? the .357 magnum blackhawk and the .45 Colt/.45 ACP blackhawk.

About the Ruger Blackhawk...

I've owned one and shot others. They're great revolvers, for a single action, and I'd own another one if the price was right.

However, if it isn't the single action part of the revolver you're after, there's a lot of good to be said about the Ruger Redhawk and Super Redhawk double action, in either caliber; especially when it comes to quicker reloading.

I absolutely love my .357 Black Hawk wich does incedentally come in a 357/9mm convertable. Some here debunk the theory of it (convertable) working properly, but honestly don't think the major detractors own one, or at least didn't admit to it.

What would you use it for?

I'd prefer the .45. It shoots real nice in the Blackhawk. You can also releoad the Blackhawk much higher than standard, approaching .44 Mag. power.

well either way it would be for a homedefense/car gun (yes all the legal actions will be taken). Only reason i like the idea of the .45Colt/.45ACP is that then i would be able to practice with it for a lot cheaper with the .45 ACP than with just being stuck with .357 magnum. Also what is the price of the RedHawk pistols compared to the BlackHawk ones? I'm looking to spend under 500 (idk if that will be possible to do if i go for the Combo .45Colt/.45ACP unless i go used)

What you choose is certainly your business but the .357 does have a few advantages. 1. it is flatter shooting and more of a long distance round than the .45's. 2. you can fire the .38 special with no change in cylinder.
3. .38 specials and .357 mags are generally more available in sporting goods stores and also appear with a greater variety of bullet designs and weights than do the .45's.

Overall, I would rather have the .357 mag but as I noted, it is ultimately your choice and you may be happier with the .45's. Just take some time for research.

i have actually been reading up on both alot tonight. i know ill never know as much as i can in one night but still quite a lot. and i know its plenty safe and lots of people do it, but for some reason i just dont feel safe shooting one bullet out of a cylinder made for another. thats why i like the .45 colt/.45 acp. different cylinders. also it wont be long distance shooting. plus another main reason i am leaning towards the .45 is my grandpa has a .357 that he knows i like so im expecting when he starts getting rid of his guns, ill get that one anyway. but like i said i am still open to opinions on the .357 and can still easily decide to go with it instead

You can fire 38spl out of the 357mag, and 44spl from the 44mag, same cylinder. I find swapping cylinders on my 45 convertible a pita, so it mostly sees just the LC. I save the acp for the 1911. I find the 45lc the most versatile, from cowboy loads to near magnum level.

I prefer the .357/.38 Blackhawk myself, and also prefer the trigger pull of a single action over a double. I also own a .357/.38 S.W. 686 distinguished combat revolver but still prefer the Blackhawk of the two. I hope to somedat get a .357/.38 leveraction rifle to go with these, when my finances and wife allow it. Women, they just don't understand!

I have both NMBHs in .45 Colt with spare .45 ACP cylinders, and .357 Mag NMBHs, one with a 9mm cylinder. I like both of them, but I tend to shoot the .45s more.

This shouldn’t have to be an either/or thing. Get both.

.45s are the way to go, and you don't need the extra .45 ACP cylinder just 'download' to CAS specs for the .45 LC but don't go below the recommended minimum SAAMI specs and you can make pretty economical fodder for the revolver. Or better yet load with the "Holy Black" The smokeless stuff, like the automobile is just a passing fad!

i dont have the means to reload ammo. if i did then i would do that. main reason for wanting the convertible .45 Colt is the cheap bulk .45 acp ammo i could practice with

I feel you perhaps do not understand the .357 magnum is just a longer case .38 special in terms of case design. The .357 mag cylinder will perfectly fit .38 special cartridges. There is no problem of radically
different case design in this regard.

WHY buy a 357magnum and run 38specials through it????Just making work for yourself cleaning wise.Buy a 357 and use 357 through it.Or buy a 45long colt and have some fun.I have had a ruger super blackhawk in 44mag with a 10 1/2 inch barrel and with heavy loads it was very shootable with one hand.I dont know what some fellas go on about?????I used it for the first year i shot metallic silhouette and was shooting 36 and 37 consistently.
