TV goes byby

I heard that sometime next year a TV other than cable will be shut down does anyone know about this
the only thing that it has to do with survival is that if you have a battery operated TV to use in shtf it could be almost useless.

Take a deep breath teenage. they are telling you the the signal generated to broadcast televison will change in 2009 not that television broadcasts will end. I am probably going to mess this up but I believe the date is in Feb 2009 when the FCC will require shifting from NstB (I think thats right) to a digital signal. Older TV's aren't capable of receiving and interpetting this new signal and converting it. If you are on Cable or a satellite you won't be affected. If you're receiving "Broadcast" TV signals then you either need a digital capable Television or a converter box.... Not really anything to get too worked up over.

Uncle Sugar has a web site some where, where he'll send you a 40 rebate check when the transitions is made from analog to Digital.
You can ask for as many as you need.
In other words you'll need to buy a converter and I noticed the other day Wal Mart had a display of them already for sale.
I had the site written down some where and I can't find it...A.H

ANALOG TVs willl be no longer be sold or supported after 2009. To pick up a Digital signal you will need to purcahse a converter to translate the digital or Satellite to the ANANOLG INPUT on your TV.

I haven't had cable TV in like 4 years and I don't even watch tv really except for maybe sports.

Just wait for IP TV, that will be the greatest thing ever and I may actually buy into that. Until then, Cable TV is just one giant rip off.

Talking

I'm on rabbit ears myself - still blissfully living in the middle 20th century . . .

I just watch The Simpsons, Antiques Roadshow, and the occasional nature or history special. I can lose TV all-together, if the cost is too high. Now, screw with my 'Golden Oldies' on radio, then we got a fight going . . .

I just GOTTA HAVE a TV!!!! I don't have anything else that big to just sit there and collect dust! But it does come in handy for a frozen winter's day and the grandchildren are over. How else would we watch "Tranformers" for the 39th time?

Hi, my name's MOS19K and I'm a TV addict.

I love my TV, I have satellite in each room and I've been known to have all of them on so as I walk from one room to the next I can keep watching.

They are changing all signals to digital from analog. Which means you will need a digital tuner. If you have cable or satellite, you already have a digital tuner. You will not need to buy a new tv. Most late model TV's have a built-in digital tuner anyway. But, even if you have an old TV with a Satellite Receiver, you are fine just like that.

As far as a baterry operated TV, most of those have analog tuners and they will be obsolete without a digital tuner, so they will be good for picking up radio signals, but no tv. It is my understanding, however, that they will leave some of the analog transmitting infrastructure in place for times of disaster or whatever, but will not be used unless it is in such a situation as that.

I know why they call you crazy....

You remind me of Gilda Radner, NEVER MIND.... Digital SIGNAL and not digital display or varac tuner or mechanical tuner or digital tuner, SIGNAL, Digital SIGNAL.........

Dig signals

I heard FM radio will be doing the same thing. There was a notice to that effect on a little walk man I bought recently. Nothing but stupidity and lies on those channels any way. Let's just all put them on the curb next Monday and see how long it takes for the troops to arrive. We quit taking the paper and they still throw it in our yard. They must keep up the indoctrination. We exchange videos with friends and are not missing much. Brittany who?

I finnaly upgraded and got an outdoor antanea that is digital ready and was suprised how many stations are already brodcasting! I went from about 10channells to 42! among those channels are 2 weather channels that brodcast local wheather and information 24/7 and the picture quality is as good if not better than cable. I am sold on the idea now. all I had to do was buy the antane and thats it no more cable or satalite bills!
