How do I get better with the guns I have? (For Survival)

Yesterday, my husband bought me a M&P15 and we went there to get me a handgun! Now, I currently have 2 shotguns a handgun and now this. I've only shot the handgun once. Okay, first of all, He listens to AlexJones every day. Now he's pumped for protection from marshall law and I was just wondering if there is a place that I can learn to protect myself in the woods? Kind of like paintballing? All of the shooting ranges around here in North Carolina are private. Would you suggest I join? what to do, what to do? Oh, also he's pretty good at shooting like in Ghost Recon 2 games. I want to be ready when s%$& hits the fan.

where bouts

lukilao: Ma'am; don't know where you are in NC; BUT Uwharrie has a place, and $3.00 a visit.
Give us an idea about where in NC and maybe we can find 'free to $3.00'

You did end up with one heck of a pistol

Ma'am; Welcome to G&G

neighbor

lukilao: Ma'am, I'm your Clt. neighbor. We have looked and looked for 'free' places to shoot. Uwharrie is it, considering 45min drive and $3.00 range [all day] fee.
Should you not have been to Uwharrie; 100yd multi stations 50yd handgun
stations. NO skeet. Can blast away with Shotgun; Targeting downrange.

i have just read the posts on how people around there are lazy and leave their trash all over the place. i'm assuming there's a camp ground nearby. should i plan on staying overnight or is there plenty of room to shoot even though it's always busy?

Uwharrie

lukilao: Ma'am of the time that I've been there; little to no trash.
Yes you can camp, horseback, walk abouts, bicycle, 4 wheel, plus jeep 4 wheel and fish and hunt.
We go thru the week. Actually going tomorrow to set up a couple new long guns. We have had the range to ourselves from 9:30 til 3:30 when we normally leave. Weekend I understand are a little crowded.
Just built a her/him bathroom. Nice. Bring something to drink. Possibly snack.

On hwy 109 there two [2] places to buy your day pass. I don't remember the names. One in particular; has a great big parking lot, servers sandwich [hot] cold, much like a country store.
From Charlotte, Hwy49 N. to hwy 109 at Denton turn right. Approx 8-9miles on right is this country store.

Hwy 24-27 N though Albemarle [it turns right in Albemarle] go across the river until a gas station convience store on your LEFT turn left at store.
You'll come to a stop sign; approx. 10miles. HWY 109 Turn left: approx 10 miles that same Country store will be on your left.

Follow up if this isn't clear. Craig

There is a place north of Statesville out towards the Harmony area. If you take HWY 21 North off of exit 54 on I-77 there is a place about 4 miles up on the left called Shooters. Its been a couple years since I went there but they have a really nice skeet range but they also have a trail that goes through the woods that has random skeet towers. They also have a rifle range and sometimes they will bring in the targets for a pistol day. Im not sure if they are still public but I used to go out there a bunch.

I think the first thing is to make sure the gun is zero in. Since I don't have one of those fancy gun stand things, I'm just gonna start out at 10 yards and work my way out. Should be fun.
