| Remington 700 SPS Varmint!!! YEAH BABY!
I bought this sweet thing a few weeks ago and today was teh first chance I had to go shoot. I bought a Boyd's thumbhole for it and that is the ONLY mod to it. It is NOT free floated. I am sure some will have issues with this but I ran 20 rounds of surplus ammo through it and cleaned it after each box. Did this twice. By this point it was starting to get a little tighter and I switched to Remington 150 Grain UMC. My last group fit INSIDE a dime! I will have pics to follow but 10 MPH wind, first time even firing a rifle in a year and a half, new gun, not floated, INSIDE a dime. Go get 'em, Remington. Oh yeah, $70 Walmart scope to see if I liked the mil-dot, and the gun was under $600. And I am 19 haha

I've been looking at these SPS Varmint rifles since they were first released...I want one bad. I'm thinking about getting one this summer and making it a target rifle for the range and a long range (200-300 yard) deer rifle. I'm torn between getting a .243 and .308 though. I've never really fired a .308 (I own one, in semi-auto, but it's not reliable and thus I don't use it). My main rifle right now is a M1903 30-06. I love the rifle, but the recoil gets to me after about 20 rounds. This is why I wanted to go with the .243, plus the .243 is supposed to have pretty good ballistics at the range that I would use it at (200-300 yards). I wouldn't replace the stock right away, but would definitely make it my winter project. How's the .308 recoil? |

I think you would like the .243 much better,half the recoil and a much better trajectory.Besides,if you use varmint bullets they dont bounce near as bad,and you can hunt deer size game with heavier bullets. sam.

I can only comment on the .308. I am open minded but after the way this shoots I don't want anything else. My sister wouldn't like the recoil but I weigh 130 and I shot 60 rounds before the range closed. My LEFT arm was more sore the next day simply because of how I held it. Recoil is not an issue and the way I see it... why would a sniper use .308 vs. anything else? Accuracy is the point so I am .308 WIN all the way. There are others that are better but I am all about accuracy with plenty to kill. Like I said, ask a sniper.

Well that's why I ask. US Snipers only have the choice of the 7.62NATO and .50BMG. 6mm-7mm rounds seem to be the favorite of Snipers in other countries though.

Question. The shown gun above it breaking the golden rule " nothing touches the barrel" how much moa does it shoot?

Let me know prices and details for that Bushnell man. I am looking for a good scope with super high power and a mil dot reticle. I don't much cash as a college aged kid so right now I have a $70 Walmart Center Line 4-16X40. LOVE IT so far but not what I had in mind. Impulse buy in order to spend less money haha

Looks good man! I am a mil-dot kinda guy so that's what I am looking for. It may prove to be nothing special but I can really see the applications and have enjoyed it so far. I am looking at a Barska 40X variable. $70 is what makes me nervous...

| I just bought one yesterday
I just picked one up yesterday in .223. Will be used for prairie dogs and coyotes. haven't had a chance to shoot, and I can hardly wait.

I went to the big Tulsa gun show last weekend. Saved up for months for that show and did not buy a thing (prices about 20% to 50% too high on most everything I saw, at least compared to my local area). When I got home I ordered about 8 guns from Ron Shirk Shooters Supply. A 700 SPS in .223 was one of the ones I ordered. Received it this past Friday and can't wait to shoot it. I am undecided as to what optics to put on it . I intend to put a bench rest scope on it to try it out and see how tight a group I can get with hand loads. If it lives up to my expectations I am considering a Leopold MKIV with the .223 turrets. Those MKIV's are a lot of money so I am looking into a more affordable option but I do want quality optics on it. A $40 bushnell or tasco aint gonna git-r-done. If anyone has a suggestion of something that has worked well for them I am listening.  I intend to use it for a varmint and long range plinking gun. Ray |

try the bushnel 6/18/50 or any bushnel banner scope. good scopes for the price . 80 to 120 dollars. 4/12/40 6/24/40 yoke Quote:
