I visited the classic arms website, and if you click on the firearms section, it looks like they are out of K31's because they have the K98, some Nagants, but no K31s. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place?

I think you are right bout nagants being like AK's...built like a rock but nothing special. I think I want to look into a K31, classic arms doesnt seem to have them though. Am i wrong?

. For some reason the k31's have never been on the firearms page. They are on the HOME page not the firearms page. They went up 10.00 in price over the past couple weeks, supposedly there aren't any more shipments bound for the U.S. I imagine the prices will continue on upwards.

The refinishing process sounds somewhat overwhelming at first but once you start it you realize there isn't anything that you can really screw up that can't be fixed. I actually went to my local surplus store and bought a old stock the dealer had laying around for 5.00 and used it to practice on.

If you don't have a work shop or a garage that you can occupy then that would be the biggest problem. My ol lady isn't very happy that she can't park in the garage because her spot has became my work space..

Do sporting goods stores do firearm transfers or do I need to go to an actual "gun shop?"

I think I'm gonna grab one of those K31's sometime this week.

Any place that sells guns will be able to do the transfer, but some might not do it. Probably would be a good idea to get out the yellow pages and just start calling the local shops and ask if they will do it and how much they charge.

You then tell them you are going to be buying a rifle from classic arms and that they need to fax over a copy of their FFL information to Classic arms. You will need to give your dealer the fax number which is listed on Classic arms website. Once your dealer faxes over their information to classic arms you will need to call classic arms and tell them your name and the name of the dealer you chose to use and then you simply tell them what you want. And you will pay them over the phone with a visa,mastercard, etc. I use my visa debit card. That's it.

They're not always gun shops; I got my GLOCK through a guy that ran his FFL transfer biz through the basement of his house. It was still very professional at a desk in a little den. He was only 15 minutes drive from me and I got the transfer done on a handgun for only $20.

Get a Mauser. 8mm. Exacts - 7.92x57mm. Highly accurate if you have good rifling. You can have carbine, or long rifles. FPS is around 2400-2800, depends on the gun. It has very impressive shoulder kick. Anyway, i recently saw a Turkish Mauser for sale around 75.00!!! so they can come pretty cheap. Nice piece of weaponry.

Depends on the FFL, you should talk to them first and say "Hi, I want to purchase this firearm and was hoping to use you as a transfer dealer..."

That's not only a good manners, but also a good idea, since some FFL dealers, especially if they're a gun shop, won't transfer firearms that they sell. Personally, I won't do business of any kind with folks like that, as that's just rude. If they don't want my transfer money, then they don't want any of my money... period.

There is an inexpensive (around $350) Tula bolt rifle listed at ssmedwi.com and Tennesee Guns. I have the T03-78-01 and if the .308 shoots anything like it, all I can say is ...WOWWWWW!!!!

hit the pawnshops after deer season. Around here the locals sell off last years deer rifle and buy this years turkey gun. jason6969 traded a mossgerg/maverick 12 gauge last year for a used Rem mod 700. The wood was ugly(scratched) but it came with a redfield scope. Ask him about it next time he is on here. oh it was a .30-06. Its all in the timing of the market.

I had to check. the links are SSMEDWI.COM and TGI Online Store, Your Source For Military Surplus Parts and Accessories . The rifle is a TOZ-122. Looks interesting!
And +1+ on checking the pawn shops. Thats where I found my Stevens Model 200 with a 3x9x44 Tasco World Class for $149

I'll recommend a relative newcomer, a marlin XL7 in .270. It's also available in '06 so if you prefer that.... This rifle should be avaiable for right at $300. and has a knock-off of the very nice Savage accu-trigger. This leaves you $200 for a pretty decent scope for it to!

if you want to keep it under $500 for gun and scope id look into one of the savage packages, a weatherby vanguard or howa 1500. As for a scope try checking out the Bushnell Legend 5-15x40. I love mine, one can be had for about $168 on budsgunshop. I remember when i wanted to spend no more then $500 on a nice package...but when the time came to actaully purchase, i ended up droping $900 hahs
