| My question would be why did the sight get changed in the first place. I thought the rear sight on mine was wrong for a while then I found out that it was just not as common as I thought. There is a book by Murray that is dedicated to the savage 99. Great resource. I recommend a copy.
As for looking at used savages I am sure there are others more qualified that I and I hope they chime in. I would look for obvious signs of abuse, check for hairline cracks, especially the "savage crack" in the tang. Also look at it and see if it has been reblued or the stock refinished or changed. Does the buttstock and the fore end match in finish and color?
Prices seem to be on the rise. I feel they are great investments.
