AR based 6.5 Grendel

I am recently very intrigued with the 6.5 Grendel... does anybody else make a complete upper for the 6.5 other than Alexander Arms?

If not a complete upper, a 6.5 Grendel barrel/bolt combination ... how hard will it be to change out from a 5.56mm? Is it as simple as installing the bolt in the carrier group and just simply re barreling the upper receiver?

I looked at both the 6.5g and the 6.8spc. Went with the 6.8 because of cost and availability. Either way you need bolt, barrel and mags. Just build or buy a second upper. If I remember correctly, Alexander Arms holds the patent rights on the 6.5g and that is one reason you don't see others developing the round.

It would make sense... good on them since it is quite the emerging long distance round...

I plan to buy a complete upper with some magazines so I can dimply switch out with the 5.56 version. Are the magazines really that different or is the follower just different?

Satern only has barrels and bolts I believe, Sabre has it all.
I looked into this round recently but went with a 204 from White Oak because I wanted it specifically for yote hunting. I believe I will buy either a 6.5 grendal or 300 whisper/fireball upper this year though.

Oh, and check out white oak too. Dunno if he makes the grendal but its worth a call to find out.

I had a bad experience with a Bushy upper and the customer service dept... so I'll probably steer clear.

They said the shooter was the problem, not the gun. Needless to say, the timing was off... (front sight was slightly kicked to the right)

Are you aware of any magazine followers to retro the 5.56 mags to 6.5? This would make things so much easier to convert completely over to 6.5 ...

Most likely because Alexander Arms also makes the .50 Beowulf round...

If you got into a close range match, the Beowulf would definitely win!

I'd love to have one from Alexander Arms, what a flat shooter. The bullet has a great B/C, and it has been nailing milk jugs at 800 yds. It would make a great deer round. Try www.6.5 grendel .com

I'll either replace the 5.56mm or just get the 6.5 upper... either way, I like what I see.

Billy... I believe you are correct. I actually had no idea what a "Grendel" was so I had to look it up in mythology.

Pretty good name for the 6.5 caliber in my opinion.

I would stay away from Bushy also, I know firsthand 3 separate people that have bought a complete AR from them and all 3 returned them. All 3 did get good service though, 1 asked outright for his money back the other 2 sent the guns back in to get "repaired". One of the guys only shot his twice when the bolt carrier came apart, luckily it wasnt an explosive type of coming apart.

Les Baer makes good stuff but a little too "ritzy" for my taste. Kinda like a Ferrari, you only take it out on nice days and you baby the hell out of it.

I like a shooter.

Ah, but in the story after he killed his mom he cut off Grendel's head and carried it back as a trophy.
