My M44 bit me!!

I shoot left hand. At the range today I shot some heavy ball ammo in the M44. The first shot (with bayonet folded) went off and when the gun raised up the bayo. end got my finger. Nice little slot cut in my thumb now.
Glad I always carry a bandaid in my billfold!

Lefthand, I feel your pain as a fellow lefty. I havent had any problems with the bayo, but I took a healthy chunk of skin off my thumb trying to operate the bolt with my right hand. Is there any way, short of redesigning the entire rifle, of altering it to the bolt faces to the left? I'd love to buy one as a project to work on if that was at all possible for an amatuer to do.

One of the pleasant things I found out when I shot my Mosins was how much easier it is to cycle the bolt with the rifle shouldered. I shoot left handed as well, and I cycle the bolt with my left hand. I find it is easier to do than right handed and cycles faster.

Sorry about the Mosin Boo boo. I never thought about that being a problem. However, I have not shot off hand with my m44s yet.

Kid thought it was funny until I wiped blood on his target. Then I kicked him in the foot so he felt my pain (or pain, at least).
NO-NOT HARD DID I KICK HIM!
He did mention that he shot the .22 rifle with more bulls-eyes than me.
I kept quiet and let him think it. He was bragging a lot to his mother when she got home from work but she knows the two rifles don't compare.
Neither one shoots the MN's though. Maybe in te future....

LOL. nah it's not the bayo I'm having issues with. I was just curious if it was possible to make a left handed Mosin or alter the mosin so the bolt faces left. This is probably impossible, but I thought i'd ask anyway :-)

it could be done, as it has been done on mausers back in the old days. it would however be extremely cost prohibitive. much cheaper to just extend the bayonett, and learn how to operate the bolt without tearing up your hand.

reach across and work the bolt with your left hand. It will not tear up your hand.

Ok so the idea of it being made left handed kinda carried me away lol I like messing with firearms. So, I think this would work.

Basically it's a bolt that has a piece welded on the top of the handle and taking a 90 degree turn and extending past the left side of the rifle so it can be grabbed with the left hand like a right handed person would grab it. It could be cleaned up to look nice and the regular handle could be cut off and cleaned up to be nice and smooth, or be left where it is.
