| .270 WSM for Brown Bear Not long ago some guys took a .270 WSM to Australia and killed Water Buffalo with 1 shot from the .270 WSM. I think thats crazy but, if Water Buffalo can possibly be taken why not Brown Bear? What do you guys think? And this was my friend's idea not mine.

| It has been my experience that the gun doesn't kill, it is the bullet. There is a lot of information left out here. I wouldn't go buy a 270 wsm just on this one kill. The next buffalo hunt might just prove to be quite the opposite. |

| 270 WSM and Brown Bears Ya, should be perfect. I'd stick with the 130s and look for a reduced velocity load though. |

| Troll B' Gone ![]() ![]() | There are no cartridges under 30 cal that would be preferable for brown bear hunting. In the right conditions a .22 LR could certainly kill a brown or polar bear, but that doesn't make it a reasonable choice.

Absolutely, why not? Elphants have been killed with a .22LR. What you should do is pass up the brown bear hunt and hunt African lion with it and I will buy you the 270 of your choice. But in return I want the whole thing on video so when the Lion eats you for lunch I can sit ,watch and enjoy while I drink my beer and eat my pretzels. | Food For thought. 270 wsm 130 grain bullet produces 3114 Ft/Lbs at 100 yards and 2573 at 200 yards. 300 Win. Mag 180 grain bullet produces 3501 Ft/Lbs at a 100 yards and 2945 at 200 yards. Just a comparision. Also here is the site I got this info from... Remington.com - Products - Ammunition - Ballistics |

| Troll B' Gone ![]() ![]() | I guess I'll add to my earlier post by saying this, YES you could kill a brown bear with a .270 WSM, but common sense, and rational thinking tells me to not attempt it without having the proper funeral arrangements in place.

Its ok man, I'm insured. And as I said earlier this was my friend's idea not mine. If I were to go Brown Bear hunting I would want a 7mm Rem Mag minimum.

| It'll work if everything goes right. I would'nt opt for a .270wsm for that task though. .30-06 or bigger for me ! |

| There's no way I'd go on a guided brown bear hunt with a 270wsm, it might do the trick, it might not. If your friend is going to spend all that money on a guided hunt, he'd be better served shooting something a little more potent, otherwise the guide might have to finish it off for him. I'm not saying it won't do the job because proper bullet placement is the key, I just think he's better off using something with a little more oomph to it. |

| Bullet Maintenance !! ![]() | No AK Guide would take you out for Brownies sporting a 270 ANYTHING! Tell your friend to take the front sight off of his rifle, so it won't hurt as much when the Brownie stuffs it up his.......LOL

That is actually funny because back in the 50s a guy named Bob Lee killed Lions with a .270.
