| Got my can of heavy ball ammo today. I laid it on it's side and put a screwdriver in the ring and pulled. I pulled to the side , turned it, and so on as it came right off! When I got to the end the lid fell off on it's own! Guess I got lucky!

| I recently bought two cans of Bulgarian heavy ball from AIM. One can was already open (!), the other one peeled right open by rolling the strip with a pair of needle-nose pliers. The opened can might be missing 3-4 rounds, but ain't no biggie to me, I'm not gonna count 'em. Not for the price they cost. |

| Senior Member | I got one out of three cans like that rondog. The inside was OK though. Like you say it's cheap. No way it's going to stay cheap. ![]() ![]() ![]() It looked like something dripped down onto the first row but I took some Flitz polish to them which I do anyway to prevent the sticky bolt problem. Maybe I'm wasting my time but I've had zero bolt problems and they shore do look pretty for ammo being 54 years old. ![]() ![]()

| Senior Member | the 'brown' you noticed is the actual marking of the round, it means it's heavy ball ammo, heavy duty, whatever you may call it....usually it's a yellow/gold colored tip....but depending on the manufacturer, i've seen the colors vary in shade, but they still remain close to yellow.

| i meant the brown tip at the end of the lower bullet in the first pic of the cartridges. besides the fact that they almost covered the whole bullet with yellow paint, it looks like it was dipped in brown after. i was wondering if it was a stain or what? i guess i'm just spoiled, my tin of bulgy was minty inside. ![]() |

| Resisting the temptation to be a smart alec... Heavy because the bullet weight is heavy. Ball because that is the type of powder used.

| Super Moderator ![]() | Hold on you 2 ^^... Ball has nothing to do with the powder...The Bullets are "Ball Ammo"...No exposed lead or a hollow point...Heavy Ball is a heavier BULLET than Light Ball !!! Rich

Ok, Moose, I admit that you have probably forgotten more about firearms than I have ever learned but I read somewhere that the ball had to do with the shape of the powder. It was spherical vs rods. What am I confusing? Or am I just confused? ![]()

| Super Moderator ![]() | There is all kinds of powders, Flake, Ball, Extruded, and rods...In this case however it refers to Ball Ammo, a Military Designation of the bullet, Most Mosin ammo is loaded with Extruded Powder that looks like little pieces of Black spaghetti... Military Bullets are designated Ball, Tracer, Armour Piercing, Incendiary, HE, etc. Rich
