nagant revolver

im going to get a nagant revolver. there is a guy that always sets up shop at the monthly gunshow here that always brings a crate of them, anyways im fairly sure he would let me handpick mine since weve become kind of buddys, so my question is what should i look for to get a good one, condition of course, but what dates are desireable? what stamps or markings are good. things like that. i want it for collecting, but im going to want to shoot it a little but not a lot. also want matching serial numbers so howmany are there and where are they on the gun?

come on folks someone has got to know wether pre war post war or or war aira are perferable! did quality deminish at some point?! should i get one that has a matching date and factory as my mosin m38? i KNOW one of you has some answers for me!! so speak up!!!!..........................thanks

I can't tell you which dates, stampings, markings or particulars such as that have higher collector value or not, however from what I have seen like most sidearms built by the russians in that time period they are rugged and reliable. Although the theory behind the cartridges design and function was flawed it it an interesting addition which is a shooter as well to any collection...

Collector-valuewise, the earlier the better! WWII guns are notably cruder in manufacture, just as in the rifles.
Pre-CCCP is ideal, as anything with the Tsarist markings is very sought-after!
Mine is date 1939, and has decent blueing and crisply checkered grips. My buddy's first one is dated 1942, and much cruder.
He got his latest pair dated 1928 - he hasn't shot them yet - maybe never! Man, they are pretty! Well, as much as the Nagant can be!

Yes, the earlier the better. the one I have is dated 1901 and is in very good condition.

Mine is a 32 and in ex. shape. There is more than one factory but I don't know which is more collectable.
