What will make a SHTF scenario?

So in you opinion whats gonna make a real SHTF scenario? I hear all of this talk about what were going to do but none of whats's goning to cause us to do it. So what do you think will happen? Terriosist nuke us? Race wars if Obama wins? Recession? Something where all the power goes out? Zombies?! This is just to see what you all think will cause a SHTF scenario and you can add more 'triggers' if you'd like.

Our economic system and food distribution system are very complicated. Any thing that disrupts money or the food chain has the potential to make the SHTF. When there is a crippling ice storm or a hurricane people hunker down for a few days or weeks and tough it out. But if there were massive, extended disruptions for any reason - Watch Out!

D: All the above.

We used to prepare out of pure fear of the horrible coming and in an effort to follow the wise advice from others to do so.

Then we realized that being prepared helps in everyday type of situations: illness, accident, layoff, weather conditions, natural disasters, unforeseen financial challenges, etc...and we've been through several of those mini-emergencies and have been grateful for back up items in the pantry.

When we have back up in the pantry then we can shop sales, specials, loss-leaders, and seasonal deals and make even more savings, and make it through until the items we need to replenish our stocks go back on sale.

We do participate in a family preparedness program with the anticipation that there will come a time when we cannot shop like we presently do, and we're preparing to be able to make it through for an extended period of time.

Also, we've found that being prepared for whatever may be ahead brings a sense of security that is really nice...

Today we have many economical challenges around us and the prices of basic food items are climbing faster than wages. We've researched the stock/supply levels of basic items in the US food inventory and found that there's isn't the back up there used to be...like in the wheat and corn areas, basic ingredients in most of the general things we eat. In the US there isn't enough back up wheat to last a week, and corn is becoming more scarce as well.

With our present food stocks, the prices can go through the roof, availability can drop off a cliff, and we will be fine.

My family and I are grateful for the wise counsel given to prepare, and prepare to share where/when you can...

I see the economy as the biggest long-term danger. If the bottom drops out, the dollar tanks bigtime, and we enter a new and bigger Depression - we'll all be hurting!
Oil/gas prics, food prices, housing, jobs - all are very sensitive to changes in the dollar value!
The fact tha many countries hostile to us own so many dollars, and could adversely affect the market, scares the beejeezus outta me!

Multiple hits creating a "perfect storm."

terror attack+stock market crash+temporary loss of power grid+oil embargo

in any combination.

By now one should NOT need to require extensive proof texts to demonstrate that FOOD costs are surging multiple times yearly.

Some Warehouse Club Box / Case sales type stores and chains are limiting the quanity purchase amounts of flour and vegitable oil per customer. Sam's, Costco, and others have been reported placing such limits and this situation is across CONUS ( Continental United States ). In my area it is twenty bags at Costco.

Agriculture analysists are saying that Rice supplies and prices will follow Flour soon.

So, what is the appropriate responce for those who need to maintain supplies while keeping costs as low as possible.

Follow the example of the stores noted above. Buy now befpore the prices surge further upward and lay kin extra supplies before quantity restrictions are instituted.

For those who seek to become and stay prepared following the example of Big Business is Self -Explanatory.

The Wheat crop failures around the world along with increased demand and costs are and will continue to place Heavy upward pressure on prices for as long as through 2010.

How many are aware how many Food products contain wheat flour and Gluten in them? Take Red Vines candy and Gummy Worms for example. Look at the labels of the packaged dry food products and can goods on your grocer's shelves.

Remember that the same type Situation APPLIES TO Petro-Chemicals as well. Take plastic packaging for example.

Is it any wonder then why food product prices are surging upward?

Delay in purchasing will only result in your costs increasing substantially.

The economic collapse will come through crappy deals offshore, and China will be waiting! The Muslims have a short window of opportunity, and they are working HARD to be in position to take advantage of it. We have a few things that are in our favor. We still are basically solvent; we still can leverage our way out of this; and if we take our country back, right now, we can, and need to go into a period of isolationism, to fix US first!
