Range report for 1938 Tula

Well I took the 1938 Tula out to the range to sight it in at 50 yards and I did not have to adjust anything. It seems to shoot about 3/4 inch high but who cares about 3/4 inch. I shot my first three shots at a 1.25 inch group, called it good and then decided to have some fun. Somebody had left a bowling ball out at the range so I blew it apart into about 10 pieces and then just made smaller and smaller pieces of them. It is so funny to watch peoples reaction when I place a small plate size rock at 100 yards and then just destroy it into a cloud of disinigrated granite. I also shot the Mauser and love that as well. The trigger is so much smoother on the Mauser.

This 12 year old skinny ( really skinny ) kid asked me if he could shoot the 91/30 and the turkish 1903 Mauser, so I asked his dad if the kid could shoot them. The dad chuckled and said sure he could. So I suggested that the kid pad his shoulder and the kid said he would be okay. I loaded the 91/30 with the bulgarian heavy ball and the kid slowly squeezed the trigger. The kids shoulder threw back, the dad fell over laughing and the kids eyes grew to about the size of beach balls. the kid loved it but did pad his shoulder when he shot the Mauser.

Jlem that is hilarious! Good for you for letting him shoot your rifles! Shows the kind of person you are! That's half the fun of shooting! Getting the kids involved. We need more kids out there with us.

Oh BTW, great shooting with that Tula. I have two Tula's and one is not exactly that accurate. Need to shoot the other one. Congrats on that group!

I go to the free range in Carson City Nevada. Most people will invite you to shoot their guns. The father with the kid had a scoped AR15, SKS and an M1 Grande that he let me shoot. Everybody is super safety conscious. On bozo walked out about 5 ft past the fire line about a month back and people started yelling for him to get back. Never seen anybody drink booze and the best part is that people bring out all kinds of cool stuff to shoot like Bowling balls and even an old TV that has been slowly shot to hell over the last couple months. The shooting area is covered and has concrete tables and every 50 yards is marked.

Here is the target. I put up a small chunk of the bowling ball at 100yrds and a group of people gathered around wondering if the rifle could take it out. It was cool to see the expretions when the first shot blew the thing into about 10 pieces.

That's why the best 91/30's were the sniper rifle of choice.

I did let the dad know so we will see. Before I bought my 91/30 I actually shot a guys 91/30 a couple months ago and I think it was a finnish. It did not have the circular front site guard, It was just the post. I jokingly said I would give him 125 cash if i had it on me and he said that if he ever saw me out there again he would think about it. I have not seen him since so who knows. I should have got his number but I didn't know anything about the Finns untill after.

Ya, it was big foot! I had a heck of a fight on my hands. He loves Enfields and that one looked just like the one someone stole from him while he was trying to get some beef jerky and steal a pig. Thank God I had my M44 with the bayo extended handy. First I noticed he was standing there so I gave him an elbow to the bread basket grabbed his arm and flipped him over my shoulder. He howled and bounced up like he was made of rubber. The break gave me just enough time to grab that M44 and yell BONZAI and charge! The sticker hit a rib and I pole vaulted off his chest and out the basement window. Gave me time to get away. He left my Enfield but drank all the beer I had in my fridge. Wait till I get that spam can of ammo open. That overgrown fur bait is in trouble!
