| Walther P22 Break-In Just want to get an opinion on how many rounds I should shoot to fully break in a brand new Walther P22? I went to the range today and fired about 300 rounds in an hour. The more rounds I shot, the more it jammed, didn't fire, or misfed ammo. I only owned this thing for about a week and am ready to sell it to get a bigger caliber pistol. Maybe a S&W Sigma 9mm or .40 cal. **UPDATE** I went to Gander Mountain to see what my gun was worth used. Get this. They were selling the exact gun I had for $323 brand new. My gun is only a week old with only 300 rounds fired through it and they (the gunsmith) told me they can only buy the gun back at wholesale price of $165! And the Blue book value of the gun is $220! Which, would be the price if they were to sell it used. The thing is the place where I bought my gun was originally list $299 and was on sale for $269. I figured I would AT LEAST get $200 for it but Gander Mountain rips people off in selling their guns and buying them back. I advise people not to shop there AT ALL! | It shouldn't be jamming at all, "break-in period" is an excuse for a crappy gun. None of the autoloaders I've owned ever required it, just went bang out of the box. Since you just bought it, it should be returned to Walther. I've heard these things sort of suck, which is a surprise, thought Walther had a reputation to protect. |

I noticed there was a considerable amount of oil on the firing pin. Could that cause a misfire? I am thinking the ammo I am using is not a good ammo to use in this gun. Winchester Xpert 22's is what I was using. Also I think the clip needs to be broke in. I also cleaned the mag, was a bit oily.

I got my p22 on Tuesday. After reviewing threads and discussions from previous owners, the gun is great for the buck. Does not like cheap ammo at all, some say it has no problem with it after a thorough break in. My p22 loves CCI ammunition, those are great because so expensive but never fail to function. Get CCI's, you'll love it. Much louder and has more kick than bulk ammo.

I shoot American Eagle in mine and I've had no problems at all. If you continue to have problems, contact Walther and they will take care of you. I have 2 P-22's and after several hundred rounds the rear sights became very loose; Walther took care of the problem at no expense to me, they even furnished a shipping tag. I recommend you make sure you're using high velocity .22LR's...only.

Hope It Doesn't Break During "Break In" You may note that there are more than several reports of the Walther P-22 (not actually built by either Smith or Walther!) with sheared/broken/failed slides- http://home.cogeco.ca/~wayne_storage2/WALTHERP22_CRACKED_SLIDE.html

OK, finally tested other types of ammo. CCI Minimags were the best. I even tried Remington Cyclones and they worked much better than the Winchester being that they too were hollow points. Glad to realize it was the ammo and not the gun.
