.44 mag revolver for CC

I read in his book God, Guns,and Rock and Roll that Ted Nugent used to carry a .44 mag revolver. What do yall think about this?

There are a few decent sized .44's that would not be too bulky for carry out there. Combined with a managed recoil type load, it wouldn't be that far fetched.

I used to carry a S&W 629 with a 6" barrel. It worked for me.

My father in-law, retired Minneapolis police officer of 33 years, carries a .44mag snubbie for CC adn around the home. He lives in a rural area and frequenly has brown and black bears visiting his house/property. There he loads the magnum rounds, for carry in town, the special rounds. I mention this because there will overpenetration with a magnum round vs human. If you are in a metropolitan area it is something to be concerned about.

If you miss, it doesnt matter what the caliber/load. Those bullets are going to get stopped by something, hopefully an inanimate object.

I heard that he is carrying a 10 mm, but did not catch the make of gun. It was mentioned in a Maasad Ayoob article.

I feel the .44 mag revolver is a too big and heavy for a carry gun.
Also, many claim to but not that many actually master the .44 mag.

However, if it works for you then it is what you should carry.

Since a 4" barrel .357 with 125 grain JHP's has the best record of anything for stopping power, why lug around something bigger, heavier, and harder to shoot? And if you go to a lighter .44 special load, you're defeating the purpose, since it's not as effective as the .357 from all the data available.
It would be cool, though. You certainly would know it's hanging on your hip.

I love my S&W 681 .357. I carry it all the time and see no reason to carry a .44 for any reason. I dont see many bears in the city.

Don't forget, in some states, you can just OC it. I know I would if I owned a nice .44mag revolver.

I find OC to be much more comfortable, especially in summer.

That's fine--whatever you can shoot well. Maybe load with mid-range or hot .44 special to prevent overpenetration.

I've been a fan of Ted Nugent since his Amboy Duke days and he's been known to carry a lot of things.

Not the same as one I saw a while back. On that one, it showed and stated both WI. and IL. are not CC in any way shape or form. This one for IL. says in rural areas and I don't think that's true. Illinois has no and recognizes no CCW licensing. I'd gladly admit I'm wrong if someone shows me I am. lol

Also, when I clicked on Illinois, it went to a page with other info for Illinois. One such info is it says minimum age for OC is 18. That I know is wrong. You can't legally even own a handgun in Illinois until or unless you're 21...So I would be skeptical about any info that site gives and still check with the state your ins State Police.
