A trade you say!

I gotta a guy thats wants to trade me an ar15 short barrel and folding stock, 5 mags and a hard case for my m1 carbine (which I like alot) and also a smith corona 03A3. Both these guns were handed down to me. I really want an AR but not sure about the equality of the trade since I am a newbie to rifles all together.

My personal rule is don't trade guns. You will regret it later. I have only sold one gun in my life and that was because I really didn't like the gun.

Trade

Which make of AR. It would have to be top tier, Rock River, Bushmaster, Colt, or DPMS to lure me. You definitely want to shoot the rifle first to see how it functions.

NO! The M1 'could' be worth twice the value of the AR. Check gunbroker or auctionarms for values before you trade. AR's are cheap now. You can build one for under $600. Personally, I would never off a gun that had come from a family member.

Well, if it's got a folding stock that means it's a gas piston upper. And you trade for that short barrel without going throw a dealer both of you will be spending some time behind bars. I guess it could be a Daewoo, are you sure the barrel is under 16"?

The AR has a 16 inch barrel... It seems like this guy wants my m1 real bad it is an Inland mfg. which he told me is worth about 250-400 bucks. Both are in pretty good condition... Looks like you all have about the same opinion. I'll have to find out the make of the AR I didn't realize there was so many. Thanks for the input it's greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't accept that trade, especially since the rifles were passed down to you.

Do yourself a favor, save your money... keep your guns and get an AR on your own. AR's are plentiful and they are pretty inexpensive... but not your M1 carbine or your 1903A3...

If your Smith -Corona is full Military and not tapped for a scope...all Original, it is worth More than the AR !!!!
Don't be a fool...Keep your guns, and save up for an AR !!!

Dont trade or sell either of those guns. Just start putting back a little money every now and then for the ar. LMAO how much you want for that m1 anyway. JK

Keep the M1. You can always buy an AR. Maybe not just like that one, but then you'll still have your M1.

I wouldn't do that trade either. You build an ar as stated for about $600-700. If you M1 is in decent shape, it's worth at least that. Not to mention the sentimental value...

I hate to lock another m1 into a collection I do not have access to, but I have to agree with everyone else here. Keep it, you can buy a good AR anytime. Getting a nice m1 is a crap-shoot, the ones I have ordered have been generally good, but you never know what they are going to ship you...
