So, I joined a gun club, and Sunday I made my first trip there. It's a big place, 560 acres, so I was driving around to check it out. Found the high-powered rifle range, with berms at 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 yards. There were three guys there shooting, and one had an Armalite single-shot .50bmg. I was looking it over and he asked if I wanted to shoot it.

Thought it was pretty cool that the first time to the club, the first two rounds I fired were out of a .50! We were shooting at a steel plate, 1" thick by about 12"x12", at 600 yards. I have no idea if I hit it, but it was a hoot! Didn't kick any worse than my 30-06, really, but it spoke with MUCH more authority!

I was really surprised at how stable it was, and how easily I could hold the crosshairs on that plate at that distance, he had a helluva scope on it. I may very well have hit it, he gave me one armor-piercing round, and there were three holes clear through that plate when I went to look. One might have been mine, I don't know. But I did find three .50 a/p inserts laying on the berm behind the target. Very cool, I wanna do it again!
