| Got to shoot a big boy Sunday! So, I joined a gun club, and Sunday I made my first trip there. It's a big place, 560 acres, so I was driving around to check it out. Found the high-powered rifle range, with berms at 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 yards. There were three guys there shooting, and one had an Armalite single-shot .50bmg. I was looking it over and he asked if I wanted to shoot it. Thought it was pretty cool that the first time to the club, the first two rounds I fired were out of a .50! We were shooting at a steel plate, 1" thick by about 12"x12", at 600 yards. I have no idea if I hit it, but it was a hoot! Didn't kick any worse than my 30-06, really, but it spoke with MUCH more authority! I was really surprised at how stable it was, and how easily I could hold the crosshairs on that plate at that distance, he had a helluva scope on it. I may very well have hit it, he gave me one armor-piercing round, and there were three holes clear through that plate when I went to look. One might have been mine, I don't know. But I did find three .50 a/p inserts laying on the berm behind the target. Very cool, I wanna do it again! |

| Gonna take the grandson to a couple of machine gun shoots soon, we can buy a belt of thirty .50 tracers, and run 'em through an M2, for $75. I thought that was a pretty good deal. I'm getting thirty for me, and thirty for Cody. He's 11, should be a real treat for him! There's also just about any other kind of m/g for rent you could want to shoot, and cannons, tanks, etc. Rumor has it there's a guy bringing a 20mm Vulcan too! I've been told one meet is actually larger than the Knob Creek meet in Kentucky, but it's not so much of a commercial event as that one. Much larger range and firing line though. Just bought a new digital video camera, I'll be taking videos and I'll post 'em up once I figure out how to get 'em on my Photobucket album. |

| I have never fired a .50BMG but I have hit silouettes 400-600 yards with my .30-06 and I always heard a notable "WHACK" on impact. I suspect that would hold true with the BMG ? Maybe the report/recoil event masked it ? That sure must have been fun to fire that puppy off. I am hoping to get a chance at one someday! Looking forward to the video, that sounds awesome! |

| Super Moderator ![]() | Now you see what I was talking about...The Armalite is one fine rifle in .50 BMG...You do need a spotter at farther ranges > 300 Yards... Rich

| I do have one question is the armalite built on an Ar-15 lower or was it just designed to look like that. Oh and 50 cals are a lot of fun to shoot. I got to shoot a couple of rounds off of a bolt action Barrett. |

| Are you sure you're not thinking of the AR-15 chambered in .50 Beowulf? Alexander Arms .50 Beowulf After reading that article...I kind of want one. Talk about an awesome home defense tool. |

| Sounds like a wonderful time rondog. Also sounds like a great club with tons of space to shoot. I take it it's in Colorado? What is the membership fee if I might ask. Just curious.

| Let me know if you find it. I'd like to see how an AR-15 lower can be modified to fit the nearly 6" long magazine. |
