CZ452 single shot usage

Hi folks, I am new to all this stuff, and have a 452 American on layby here in Australia whilst i get my firearms licence.
My question is as follows; I am aware that you can get a single shot adaptor for this rifle. My local gun dealer has told me there is no advantage to buying this adaptor for single shot usage.

What do the CZ owners of this board say about this?
What do you think about dry firing 452's?
Do you think there is anything in the theory of running in a barrel?

There sure seems to be lots of different opinions about this stuff. I will try different types of ammo in it when I get it. Wolf match and Federal gold match are on my list. Also the cheapest types will be tried. No stingers however, and oh yes,..................buy a .17 cleaning rod.

The whole cleaning thing remains a confusing issue. It must be the same for all new folks.

Any advise from Cz452 .22LR owners would be greatly appreciated. ( there must be a few of you out there ). The only thing I am sure about, is that I have picked a great brand and model for my first ever firearm. Some of you folks that have LOTS of firearms really amaze me. Some of you seem to buy, like..................one every few weeks!.
They are a lot more expensive down here ( f*&^%$ if I know why ). Also I believe firearms in general are no longer socially accepted in Australia anymore.

Anyway, I would be pleased to here from you guys, ( and girls for that matter ).
Regards to all, Steve

I like the idea of a single shot adaptor for use if you intend to train young people to shoot. The first gun I ever shot was a Remington .22 bolt action that had to be single loaded and manually cocked back when I was about 10 years old. If you don't have a purpose like that in mind, then your dealer is most likely correct.

I was always taught never to dry fire a rimfire of any kind. I don't normally dry fire any of my centerfire arms without a snap cap. As far as the 452, try getting on CZ's website, maybe send them an inquiry. I have a couple of CZ pistols that I really like but I don't have a 452. Good shooting!

i have the adapter for shooting groups.
"those benchrest guys made me buy it"
i use it so i have perfect bullets that do not get marred by going up the loading ramp.
i hand single feed my ruger 10-22 when going for groups also.

If you dry fire it check after each time to see if there is a mark on the breech face where the firing pin would hit, if there is stop dry firing if not it should be okay. I have a few CZ rimfire rifles and have never had a problem dry firing but that is my rifles yours may differ.
Clean it before shooting the first time then brush out the bolt chamber area after firing. Don't do anything else until groups change/open up, then clean the bore. 22lr rifles dirty the bolt/chamber area but should not dirty the bore that much.
I have fired Stingers out of mine, no problems just not that accurate.

another CZ fan here.
Mine is a 453 Varmint, 22 cal.
CZ's are excellent rifles (pistols too).
Never could see the need for a single shot adapter. Just load through the open bolt with an empty mag in the rifle. I agree with Billy about loading singles when going for top accuracy. Feeding through a mag can scar the bullet.
You have purchased an excellent rifle. Mine will shoot groups just as small as my friends Cooper (very expensive) and will equal or beat Ruger 10/22's with custom barrels and all the fancy add-ons.

Question to other CZ shooters,
Why does everyone seem to buy the 452 instead of the 453 with the set trigger?
I absolutely love mine.

That is easy!, 452 is divisable by 2, and 453 is not.

$'s and to tell you the truth the 452 was done set in my mind when I went to buy, not even considering the 453. I couldn't be more happy with the 452. I adjusted the trigger as light as it would go, and according to my scale it's about 2lb4oz, with a little bit of creep. Shooting targets it's noticeable, but hunting it's not. Best trigger & shooter I've ever had! How do you like that 453?

Made my own

I have a 452 in 17HMR. I didn't like the magazine for two reasons. First it sticks out the bottom making it unsightly and it gets in the way when shooting off a bench, (I know that's picking nits). But secondly, I like to feed rounds one at a time and at least with the 17, you really need to poke the bullet into the chamber as they don't feed well when you lay rounds on top of the magazine. They sell a single shot adapter for the .22 but not the 17, so I made one. I took a scrap of black plastic pipe and cut out what I would need. Then I put it on something flat in an oven and heated it till it was flat. I shaped it like the magazine except it fit flush with the bottom of the stock and stuck up a little higher into the action. Then I filed a v in the top that lined up with the chamber.

It worked so well I just left it in and now I can't remember where I put the magazine. There are times I would like to use the magazine but I put it someplace it wouldn't get lost and now I can't find it.
