Yugo

Hi everyone. I'm new to the AK world. I bought a Yugo underfolder at Dunhams. I was wondering if this was a good AK. I looked at the Romanians they had there and they looked thrown together. I paid around 500 for mine and it looks good. I fired about 300 rds threw it about two weeks ago with no jams. I was thinking about getting a Romanian just for another AK thats cheap. Plus I like the wood stock. My question is the wasr a reliable rifle for the price? Or should I just save up for another Yugo with a wood stock? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance.

The Yugo is built more solid and is in general a higher quality variant of the AK-47. However, as far as reliability goes, the Romanian WASR 10 is still going to go BANG every time you pull the trigger unless you by chance get one of the very few that don't. If its something to just play around with or throw in a boat or truck to carry with you, its excellent for that. You have to really try to tear them up.

I also heard that a lot of times the front sight on the wasr is canted. Is that an easy fix?

If you're mechanically inclined, yes. It's just a matter of removing the front sight, centering it, marking it and make the grooves in the new spot. For more detail, try this site for the WASR10.

For the front sight cant problem, see here. Same sight.

Just check the front sight before you buy it!

^ there yah go! Easy remody. One of my best friends has a WASR 10 and his front sight is fine and the rifle shoots perfectly as well.

Well that sucks majorly...you could always have them order one for you from someone else. J&G has a pretty good selection of AK's at the moment.

What is about the average price that dealers charge for having a firearm sent to them?

If you go to GunBroker.com Online Gun Auction, they have a find an FFL in your area. You can use it to find one that is reasonable as far as fees goes. Call and make sure it is still the price of course. But if you're going to order one and have it shipped, best way to find an FFL near you...

In fact, to save you some time, here... Just scroll down a little and put in your zip code.
