Have Anybody seen one like this

I ran across this beauty in a local ad. It's a classic model 70 with the stainless action/barrel. REally a beautiful rifle imo.

It has a leupold Vlx2 3x9. guy is asking 850 obo. It is a 30-06. Is the price ok. I've been wanting a 06 and this seems like a beautiful one.

Can you guys tell me anything about this rifle. Was the stock added to a rifle that came with a synthetic stock possibly??? I can't find the gun with the stainless on wood. I don't know much about the model 70's either.

The Blue book says Model 70 Classic Stainless 30-06 - black synthetic composite stock, so I have no idea about the stock because it don't say synthetic only, so they may have produced with walnut stock. Also says price at 100% = $610 & at 98% = $465, (according to the book 100% is after the rifle is sold by a dealer and has not been fired) once it has been fired it drops to 98%. And I'm not 100% sure what the scope is worth, But let's say $300 scope (new) should be close. If I'm not close on the scope please let me know, but me personally i wouldn't put more than $700 in the rifle and scope.(If it's a $300 scope)

That looks to be a Winchester feather weight in stainless, does it have the claw extractor like you see on Mauser 98's ? If it does and what billy said about the scope I would definnitly buy it.
The gun could be several years old meaning 1990 up into the 2000's until Winchester ceased production.
The rifle alone probably retailed in the 600.00 dollar price range, but I'm not 100 % percent sure about that.
I do know for a few years this was my dream rifle, I looked at it a lot on the net. and I ordered catologs every year.
Matter of fact my 2008 Win. catolog came Thursday and this gun now retails for 999.00 dollars in blued finish.
The catolog does not show a stainless steel finish in a feather weight.
If it appears to be as nice as you say it is and the scope is a high dollar scope and you want it and have the money to buy it, get it and keep it, that is if it also has the claw extractor.
The models without claw extractors sold for less.
See if you can shoot it to check accuratecy I've read and heard there plenty accurate...A.H

That is an awfully pretty rifle. It is, I am all but positive, a Featherweight Classic meaning it does have controlled round feeding with a full length extractor. It came just as it appears there with SS and walnut, a very classy combination to my eye(I have a SS/lam 77MKII that looks almost as nice) The scope is a very good one, a new VX2 3-9x40 runs $299 at Cabela's. The model 70s have of course increased in cost(value?) since they stopped making them 2 yrs ago. The new iteration of the model 70 will hit the stores around June 1st, but you may never see another combination like this one; SS/walnut! I think some thought it an odd combination (the SS and walnut), I simply think it's VERY good looking and practical as well.

i have a winchester m70 xtr featherweight in cal 270 with the same stock as the one shown but mine is blue not stainless.i would say that this wouldnt be a bad price for this gun.

does the barrel fit the stock good?

Well I met the guy today after eating easter lunch with the family. The guy was very nice, and we talked about the gun a bit. He said he was hunting in a place that shots were 300-400yards and he was wanting a 300wsm for the longer shots. We talked price a bit and he came down to 800.00. I probably could have gotten him down lower but the price was fine with me and I didn't want to offend the guy.

I inspected the rifle pretty closely and it is beautiful. It has a few very minor handling marks but other than that it is flawless. Most my rifles looks worse than it does after a week. Bore looked great, It has the full length extractor, trigger pull is very clean and crisp. He also let me have the sling, some hornady bullets, and some stainless polish. I consider it to be a pretty good deal by time you factor in the gun, scope, rings, bases, sling, then you have to pay taxes on all that stuff.

I am one very pleased sob. I have been wanting a 30-06 and this one is beautiful, not to mention I didn't have to pay taxes or fill out any forms, but the guy did write out a bill of sale for me to have. I love the internet!!!

You made a great deal. This is a gun you can keep for a lifetime. When the New Haven Plant shut down in 2006 the model 70 Featherweight Classics were selling between $800.00 & $1000.00 depending on the caliber. This gun is only going to up in price over the years simply because it has New Haven Conn. stamped on it. In my area the pawn shops are still selling them for about $600.00 used in the blued model in rough shape. People are holding on to the stainless models.

EXCELLENT rifle! I think the mod70 Featherweight classic is the best looking rifle ever mass produced...and you, may have one of the VERY BEST versions too!

I'd almost bet there's not a whole lot of stainless/ wood stocked feather weights around.

Thanks guys. I'm in love with it. I don't know if i'm going to hunt it or not. I have a closet full of remington 700's and marlins that I usually deer hunt with, and i'm pretty bad about roughing up my woods rifles. "make that real bad"

Do you guys think the value will continue to rise on this rifle??? If so then I will probably just let it be a closet queen and ocassional target shooter. It is in near perfect condition and I would hate to mess up such a beautiful rifle that may be worth more one day.

O and veryyyy nice gun Big tool. I have a featherweight (blued) in 223 wssm and it shoots the lights out. I haven't hunted it much either i am too scared to hurt it because it is such a beautiful rifle. how does yours shoot??

Yeah i believe it is going to be a post 64. I don't think they made the pre in stainless and I also doubt that it would be in such mint shape being that old.

I've tried doing the serial search and haven't came up with a valid answer.
