Just wondering what everyone shoots at with there SKS. I prefer to see a result of what I'm shootin, like pumpkins and chunks of hanging wood blowing apart. Paper if boring unless you're sighting your rifle in.

What ever you do, do not shoot bowling pins. They will shoot back. lol I may have chuckled, but I speak the truth.

I like to shoot things where you can see the results also. However, most ranges will not and do not allow this due to the mess it makes. The targets with the indicator, black then when hit turns yellow or then there's the orange peel targets, with those you can see your shot. But unless you have free range, can shoot anywhere you want, ya' can't really shot pumpkins,watermelon,milk jugs with water etc.etc.etc.

Typically boring paper targets due to the free dnr range. But I'm currently preparing for a can massacre cause I'm going to a friends property next month.

The most fun target that is not a pain to clean up is old cans of beer. I know most will say there is no such thing but a buddy of mine had forgotten some in his garage for 2 years and that was the most fun targets. You always knew when you hit one from the beer spay. When you're done you just have some cans to pick up.

Used to love blowing up everything imagineable! Now, pretty much paper. Just make sure you pick up afterwards please!

My Scottish upbringing could not let it not be used and in my house when I'm home, about one week is it's maximum shelf life!!

We have a bunch of cement clock pieces(well once upon a time they were good cement blocks, but that was a while ago) and they look and sound good when they're shot! The 7.62x39 won't ricochet either if you hit the block at least somewhat square on. It's fun to watch small pieces of block fly in every direction and to see a cloud of cement dust float away, and then to hear the small pieces land on the roof of our steel building close by! I also like juice/milk jugs. Sometime a 16 or 20 oz bottle. Empty spray paint(or any spray can for that matter) is pretty cool as well.

I love shooting at interactive targets! A range where I used to shoot had steel targets. Ringing them was a lot of fun. I miss that. There are a couple places where I can shoot at biodegradable clay birds. They blow up and are a lot of fun.

I stopped shooting at cement or rocks when I shot at a piece of a block with a 40 S&W and a chunk came back and hit me in the face. Not seriously hurt, just enough of a scratch to let me know that was not a good idea.

^ yeah that would scare a person pretty bad. I don't get any closer than 25 yards from them when I shoot and usually it's 40-60 yards. I also shoot pieces of cement block with my .22, but for that I always stay at least 50 yards away because they ricochet. What I really love to do is sit some 3 in square(approx) piece of top of a piece of log and shoot at them from about 100 yards with my .22. That's fun because my .22 is sighted in at about 60-65 yards(I walked out until I figured it was a good range. lol) and I have to account for elevation. It's really fun trying for 150 yards with a cheap scope and original barrel on my 10/22.

what ever fruit/veggis is on sale at the time potatos, pumkins, watermellons, apples, feed corn, oh and toasters! also i sometimes go to the local thrift/junk shops and get old toys to shoot, like GIjoes and the like but thats normaly for the 22 when i take my nephew shooting.

We used to like to shoot anything that would hold water but our range banned it( some people did not clean up after like we did) I think apples or veggies would be fun. Make a fruit salad. To small for an sks but marbles taped to a string works good for a 22 maybe something a little bigger. Hey a tennis ball on a string! it will reseal the holes and be good for many hits.

You can always get some Duelling targets made up if you know anyone handy with iron/steel working. They're pretty easy to make and give hours of fun!

charcoal briquetts. Takes some prep time to glue them to string but they are biodegradable

Giant Poisonous Vampire Tree Frogs -'cept that my SKS is so inaccurate, I can't seem to hit one.

milk jug full of water. I think it is the cheaper way.

Old pumpkins are the best!! Wild gourds, Jugs of water, propane tanks with lit flares tied to them, steel, etc... Most anything that isn't living.
I think the most fun is shooting that stuff with the shotgun. A shooting trip just isn't the same without the Mossberg 590, it held 9 rounds so you didn't have to constantly reload, a great skeet gun too. I loved shooting that more than my other rifles and pistols, I got hard up and had to sell it. Since then, I have regained some of my collection and a Mossberg 590 or Saiga 12 is next!!
