I think almost any kind of rendered grease would work as an exterior metal preservative. For a lubricant, though, I'm not sure how well animal fats would work. Has anyone tried using rendered fat as a gun lube (as opposed to greasing patches in blackpowder firearms) on a modern gun? If so, what kind of fat did you use and how did you prepare it? |
