Taurus 905SS 9MM

I posted earlier on this gun with no replies, but have a chance to purchase one NIB for 359.00+shipping. MSRP is 447.00 and they are dicontinued. Would like for a cc. Am I nuts for considering it? Thanks Ridge

9mm snubs are excellent, the little 9 does very well out of short barrels because it's more efficient in them than more powerful cartridges with a larger powder capacity. I'll try to hunt down the site, but somewhere I saw some chronograph data of the 9mm versus .38 and .357 in snub guns, and some 125 grain factory 9mm rounds were right on the heels of the .357, with a lot less recoil and muzzle flash. From a snub, the .357 is all smoke and no sizzle, the nine makes a lot of sense, and is much more powerful than the .38 Special from a short barrel. Buy it !

That is a pretty good price if that is what you want. The average price new on these was about $400 when they were available. I would prefer to have more than 5 rounds in 9mm for SD, myself.

Also, since this is a discontinued gun and you are ordering it, be sure you are getting it from a reputable seller!

Good luck whatever you decide.

I have no experience with them to give you advice either way, but what I would say is if you want it, get it. The price is less then the MSRP. Also, even though it may be discontinued, Taurus will honor any warranty issues should they arise. So that shouldn't be a concern. Other then that ridge, I can't really offer any advice.

Again, if you like it and want it, then get it. I'm sure others will offer some advice. You could also check the other Taurus threads to see if there is anything similar that's been asked/posted? You could also try checking gunblast.com. They are like the consumer products people of guns. lol They check out and try many firearms and accessories. You can check their archives or search their site to see if it's one they've tested to maybe get their impression? Good Luck...

This isn't the site I mentioned earlier, but it does give chrono data of 9mm versus .38 velocities from snub nose revolvers, the nine just smokes the best .38 loads. One of the 125 grain factory rounds listed did 1300+fps, which is actually a bit better than typical .357 performance from a 2 1/2" barrel. When Smith & Wesson brought out a 9mm snubbie some 25 years ago, gun writers were astonished at it's performance when they chronographed different loads, don't know why it never caught on.

I can't comment specificaly on the 905SS because I don't have one. But I do have 3 Taurus revolvers that I absolutely love.

Specifically, I have 2 snubbies which are very similar to the 905SS. One is the 94SSUL which is the Ultra-Lite 9 shot .22LR. My other snubbie is the 851SSUL Protector which is the Ultra-Lite .38 with the shrouded hammer. These are excellent little snubbies that are extremely accurate and function flawlessly. I would expect that the 905SS would be just as excellent as my 2 guns.

My third Taurus is the 44 Mag. Tracker with 4" tube. This is another excellent and accurate revolver.

My experience is that Taurus makes high quality, excellent, and accurate revolvers.

The only other thing I can add is that Taurus has from time to time switched between a high polish mirror SS finish as well as the matte SS finish and they called them both SS. So if it makes a difference to you, make sure you know which you're going to get. I personally hate the mirror SS finish and all of my guns have the matte SS finish that I really like.

Hope this helps,

ClayMan

A lot of great info on that website, Taurus Fan thanks.

I have never used that gun, but if you can try it out before you buy and it shoots good, it should be a good buy.

But for a little more money you could get a 17 shot 92FS, and I know it's a great gun.

Well folks I just got the the toy today and can't wait to put 5 thru it. I'll let you know what this baby is like. I have a 92FS INOX 9mm.9MMFAN

I put 25 Federal Americn Eagles through it and it felt good. Don't no the accuracy yet. The moon clips are kind of a PIA, but new that going into it. I don't think the wife will like the recoil, becauese it's kind of snappy. I do think different grips may in order. I like it,I like it. Ridge

I'm glad you like it...it sucks when you buy a gun and end up not liking it...its not like buying a car where you can test drive it before buying it. I've had at least two guns that I bought and liked before shooting them. But then once I shot them, didn't like them.
