Fun day of shooting but also disappointing

Well i went shooting at my buddies yesterday. took my Mosin M44, H&R Pardner 12 guage single shot, SKS, and Carcano. Shot about 50 rounds of Bulgarian Heavy ball through the M44, that was fun as hell. Shot id say about 180 rounds through the SKS (had to try out those 20 round mags haha). But only about 10 or so shot shells through the pardner. Even with the pad it still kicks my ass. The disappointing thing was that I had bought some old Italian army produced ammo made in 1939 for the Carcano but i couldnt get any of it to fire. Idk if the primer was bad or if the powder just wouldnt ignite. Every shot put a nice dimple in the primer but none of them fired. We ended up just throwing each one that didnt fire into his pond. Did it with about 10 of them and none fired. Looks like im gonna have to buy new production ammo. Oh well, at least i got me some clips to hold the ammo in the Carcano now

Most likely the primer, or possibly the firing pin, is the culprit. If the primer had gone off it would have enough power to dislodge the bullet and leave it in the barrel. I've experienced this with some reloads I bought.
Figure the powder in those being nearly 70 years old, just keep it for the antique value and get some newer ammo. I enjoyed shooting the Carcano I had...interesting rifle.

Carcano, the kind of rifle used to shoot JFK...For those that may not know. lol It shoots what, 6.5mm or something like that?

yup. 6.5x52mm. It is fun. I shot some prvi partizan new production ammo through it the first time i shot but i bought this to see how it worked. It doesnt fire at all. But i now have lots and lots of Clips to put new production ammo in to shoot through the carcano

Humidity ruined it more than likely.

same problem with one of my buddies old twelve gauge. it seems to be a firing pin problem with his though, it will fire some rounds but then just put a dimple in the primer in others

yeah the carcano was quite disappointing since the first time i shot it, it was so much fun. On a more interesting note, we managed to recover 3 whole bullets that we fired at our targets. almost perfect except the back ends of them were smashed flat. 1 bullet from the M44 and 2 from the SKS. Oh and an even more interesting note on one of the SKS bullets, when i found it, it was laying in front of a piece of hard wood. i inspected the hard wood and it had a dent in it that wasnt there prior to shooting. I took the SKS bullet and laid it over hte indent so it was flat on the wood and the bullet fit perfectly. i guess it either hit the log we were shooting or the ground and bounce up and was tumbling and smack that piece of wood

I took the kids out during a break in the weather they alwase love shooting, the day was cool -18F they dident complain too much, Had a .45-70Gvt that we were trying out some new re-loads on a target's from near to far some way's out walking out to check the farthest target and noticed slightly deformed slug's laying right on the ice some had rifleing marks and that was it!
