I have not seen a russian Capture K98 that was ALL-MATHCING. What usually happened when the Germans surrendered they would pile rifles in one pile and bolts in another. Then later they put the bolts back without noting which bolt went with which rifle. They then would electro pencil the last four serial digits into the bolt. This would look like hand writing.

If this is what you have then it is not all matching and not worth 500$, it is closer to the 230$ price you listed. If it is all matching then it was a great buy at 230$.

Its hard to tell by looking at the pics you have. However most of the Russian captures I have seen had a coated bolt with the numbered penciled in. Yours might be an original all matching K98. Hard to tell. Look at the bolt to see if you see 7112 stamped into the bolt.

BTW IT DOES NOT SHOOT 7.62 x 54!!!! IT SHOOTS 8MM!!!!
No sir, its not matching #s. Thats why I bought it because I wanted a shooter. It has a great looking bore. That was one of the main reasons I did buy it. Its got the Russian capture "X" on it. Its a shame they had to throw everything is separate piles. It just looked so good lying there on the table. It was still there when I came back for it.

I did some shooting with it today. It shoots high. Does anyone else have any problems with their Mauser K98 shooting high? My Turk Mauser pretty much shot where I pointed it. The milsurp Turk ammo tho, is dated 1944. It shot really well, no "click......bangs" out of it. Looks like it rolled off the assy. line last night. I only wish it was a steal of a deal. But now I got the real German Mauser, and I am very satisfied with my purchase. And its good to hear he didn't rob me either on the deal. I don't know if he didn't want to let it go, but he didn't want to budge too much on the price. I wouldn't want to let that gun go either. Will have to do some fine tuning to get her dialed. Any tricks/hints etc....from you knowledge banks out there, I'm ready to learn more! Thanks

As an add on to the reply I just posted, for kicks and giggles, I slid a 7.62x54R into the chamber on that 8mm Mauser to see if it would fit, and it did. But I didn't close the bolt on it. I didn't want to try it, but I don't know if it would seat properly anyways with that large rim on the bottom. But at any rate, I was surprised it dropped right in. Could be dangerous for someone that didn't know the difference. I also shot my M44 today. Didn't shoot as well as I have shot it before. But, I suppose it could be the ammo, because I just bought a tin of Albanian 7.62x54R. At least it was on the target, so I guess I can't complain too much.
