Bought a new carry elite stainless 220. Beautiful gun, with the rosewood grips. I've heard they're pretty reliable -- how have your experiences been ?

I've had every .45 I've owned have a stoppage more often than I'm comfortable with for primary CCW piece. (this is why I primarily carry revolver). The only auto I've had a great deal of confidence in has been the Glock 26.

Just curious how the 220 has functioned with differing kinds of ammo.

Oooo... Pretty. I love them... even got to handle a 220 Elite at my local shop. Just WAY out of my price range. I agree on the GLOCKs, that's why I carry my G27 everywhere in a Blackhawk SERPA CQC holster, both CC and OC.

You will love your Sig ... I've owned 2 of them over the years, both being 229's in .40 cal.

Sig's are incredibly reliable... excellent choice...

The sig P220 won't let you down I own a P220R, and it is one of my favroite guns. I Almost always have a sig on my hip. It started with one, and now I own 4 Sig pistols and the Sig 556 Rifle. It is my personal belive that Sigs are the best combat handgun made. If I must bring a pistol to a gun fight I want a sig. Second choice would be a tie between H&K or Glock. You saying that you never felt comfidant enough in a semiauto and carried a revlover. There is defintly something to be said for that. I am an NRA Instructor and most people tell me that the Sig is the easiest auto to transition to or those that arer used to a revolver.
I should tell you that some times Sig's do require a break in of 200-400 rounds to be perfect. I find that that is just a good excuse to train up with a new carry gun. I always love the guys at the range telling me how expensive and custom their 1911 is and then watching them try to clear jam after jam, while my bok stock sig, just keeps going.
So what kind of ammunition are you planing on useing? My 220 eats pretty much anything. So I chose the Speer 200gr +P Gold Dot. it has a good record on the street, and in my testing on wet newspaper, and water bottles put end to end to recover the bullet. Usally 4 ,2 liter bottles will stop a 45acp hollow point. but I always put 6 standign in a row to make sure I get the bullet. I have also used clay, dry newspaper, which is a much tougher test on a bullet then wet newspaper. anyway have fun with your new toy, and welcom to becoming a sig owner.

Strange, but as good as Sigs are (and I agree they are premium handguns) I find my Plain Jane ol M1911A1 doesn't experience jam after jam. Never has so far I haven't had so much as a stovepipe. Hmmmm maybe I am just holding my mouth right ya think? LOL

LOL -- That's gotta be it ... don't change ! ......my Glock 26 has done well, but all the other .45's I've shot except the SIG have had stoppages on the order of 1 per 100 rounds or so I'd estimate (sometimes worse). Currently have Warthog and PT-145 as well as the SIG which I enjoy shooting--starting to wonder if it's the 2 column mag in the others. It's probably just me and my luck....

Not gonna jinx ya !!!! Keep doin' what you're doin'. Gonna get a few more rounds on the SIG, and, if all's well, probably switch to that for a carry gun. Sure like the way it feels in the hand.

Alaskasteve -- right now using the Hornady 200gr+P TAP and Buffalo Bore 230+P JHP. Gun seems to like these and digests everything well. Shot other defensive ammo thru it as well (Corbon DPX also seems a good choice). The only ammo I personally didn't like was a box of Golden Sabres I shot -- fairly extreme muzzle flash (and I mean extreme......huge yellow flame plume). Maybe it was the lot, but I just finished off the box for target practice. And thanks -- really like the gun so far.
