What is the best survival 'combo'?

I believe a Ruger ss single six hunter in .22LR/.22WMR and a T/C G2 ss in .223 16" barrel is the perfect combo. You can buy inserts for the G2 that will let you shoot both the .22LR and the .22WMR. Most game in North America can be taken with both. Both are simple and easy to work on. What is your opinion?

Opinion

Well, you asked for opinions so I want to state I think you are a little light on caliber. I would want an accurized .223 rifle with scope for smaller game, and a higher caliber round (perhaps .30-06) with scope for larger game. Also, I would want a 12 gauge shotgun with multiple screw in chokes for winged game.

Note: Survival is not about proving you can do it with this or that gun. It is about having food in your stomach.

I'd want a Savage mod. 24 chambered in .243 and 12 ga. to cover almost any survival scenario possible.

A .22LR and a 12 gauge will take care of ANYTHING on the North American continent, and ammo can be bought ANYWHERE. In the extreme, this is the single most versatile combo for true survival.
Throw in knock-down drag-out combat and a zombie-horde invasion - then the situation is different.

30-30 Lever with a low power scope(low recoil, shells are fairly easy to find, and are compact,as well as being fast to cycle, and light to carry.), and a single barrel 12 gauge ,H&R or NEF are my favorites but I would just as well take a Rossi or Thompson Center.

I have to go with the Toolman here. I think 22LR/12ga is a great combo on a light&short Savage M24. However, you'd be undergunned for self-defense. I guess it would all boil down to the situation at hand, and if you were just attempting to live off the land.

You know not to many year ago folks had only one shot long arms.
So I figger if'in I wuz forced into a survival sitsheation an H&R single shot shotgun with an interchangeable rifle barrell would be worth it's weight in gold.
billy said a combo and I's agree wid him, but I'd want a centerfire rifle extrie barrel

My favorite "Do All"...
A SS Ruger 12 ga. with 5 chokes. Various loads.

And my "no batteries required" burglar alarm/bodyguard...
An 80lb. American Akita loaded with mad choppers.

I Am Legend.

Since the thread is about "Combo" guns, I've got to go with a true combo gun. The Savage 24C "Camper's companion" 20GA/.22 LR over under. Storage in the butt for a few shells, takes down and stores in a fold up soft case. I found one on Gunbroker awhile back, had to have it.

if it was to be one long arm and only one long arm, i'd say an over and under rifle shot gun combo

I view a survival combo as something to be used to get home following a disaster that occurs while I am at work, like the next 9/11, or something that forces me to abandon my home and take to the road/woods, mountains/etc. If I am away from home, and thought to bring something to go with my usual kit, I probably would bring a Marlin 1894C and S&W 627, both in .357 mag, and a Ruger MK II678GC with an Ultradot LT red dot sight. The Marlin is an “urban assault rifle,” capable, but non-threatening. It is also fairly light. The 627 is a very capable handgun in the event I need a handgun to fight my way to a rifle. The Ruger is a “pocket rifle” for food gathering, in the event that I need to do that to get home. Home is only 20 mi. from work, so hopefully, if the bridge is still intact, I probably won’t need to do that.

If I am at home when something untoward happens, I have additional specialized tools to help me through the crisis.

The Chief has the right of it, pretty much, if you are in a situation where you don't have to worry about groups of 2 legged predators. Modified as another thread discusses at length, it's hard to beat as a pure survival gun.

I just wish Savage made the 24C with a 12 gauge over and the .22 LR under, with provision for a laser or a red dot mount (my eyes aren't as young as they were). I have doubts as to the availability of 20 gauge shells, and the caliber won't stop everything you might run across, which could include a bear. I think a 12 gauge/.22 LR would do fine, even if I had to get it as a Drilling.

Mm...

If we're talking about two rifles for living off the land with...

I'd have to say a .22LR and probably a 30-06.

You could take down pretty much anything with those.
