Arms & Ammo is at 15th, and is indeed the best gun store in town (for guns, ammo is another issue), so I am going to assume that was who you were talking about. Brandon's is on 20th street, and I do not shop there. Lets just say I had an unpleasant experience with them and leave it at that. I've never gone into Steve's on Main, though I called once to ask about ammo.

So far, I've bought my guns from a friend in Pineville (Lil' Bear AASP). Pineville is a ways off, but two of my friends work at the shop and I trust them. And, I get a "family" discount.

As to the question of another rifle...I won't be able to do any hunting until next year anyway so I have plenty of time to decide. But I'm leaning towards getting another rifle in either case.

Sorry, I actually meant Brandon's on 20th. Sorry you had a bad experience there I was a regular there and earned his respect. I actually never had any good experience in Arms and Ammo on 15th. Steves has decent prices on ammo, but don't buy a gun from there.

I don't intend to buy guns from anyone by my guy in Pineville. I don't intend to ever buy anything from Brandon's.

That is what I'm leaning towards, or a Stevens. Or a good quality used. I want something in .308.

i have 2 stevens,30-06 and .223 like them both,im leaning toward a third a 7mm-08,i think that would be an excellent deer cartridge.you want to pay a little more look into a tikka t-3 lite.i also own a sks and the only thing i shoot is jack rabbits with it,would not hesitate on deer under a 100yds with it.here in nevada deer tend to be farther out most of the time.good luck on what you decide

Sam- I wasn't saying that. I guess I just meant if he could hit consistetly with the SKS, then he has a deer rife. And instead of rushing out to buy another now, he could use his SKS while saving more $ to get a nice deerslayer down the road. That is all.

my dad hunted with an sks for years and was successful with it. my brother hunted with one for a year or two. if you got it and dont want to spend any more money use it. if youve got about 300 bucks you can buy a H&R or NEF Handi-Rifle in just about whatever caliber you want. (Ill be ordering an Ultra-Varmint in 223 sometime.) you can get blued in all or stainless in most calibers and can get black synthetic or wood stock or laminate on some models. and you can get a variety of calibers for it. you can get shotgun barrels and muzzel loader barrels that all fit on the same receiver. takes about a minute to switch them. only draw back to a handi rifle is they are single shot. but thats all you should need.
