6.8 spc verse 6.5 grendel availability.

what are your thoughts on the two calibers above.
am building 2 more ar types.
want something different. how is the ammo availability? looked at silver state ammo. high prices, . any comment will be appreciated.

The 6.8spc is supposed to have a higher capacity than the 6.5gren.

The 6.5 has better long range ballistics.

The 6.8 has lower recoil.

I think both will be equally hard to find. Hand loading might be the way to go.

Not sure if you need it or if you'll even find it or not. I think you tube has a video on both rounds you can watch and also futureweapons did a story on the 6.5 Grendel I believe. Watching some of the video, especially on futureweapons might sway you one way or they other?

The thing about futureweapons when I saw them compare the .223,7.62 and the 6.5 Grendel was when Mack shot at the steel. To show knockdown power of the 6.5 Grendel and the 7.62. The thing was, the .223 would have knocked the steel down also. It would of had he shot the steel targets high like he did with the other 2 calibers.

He's done similar when he's tested stuff. He'll shoot the one he's boasting real good, aim right and the other he's comparing it to, he shoots low. Did it with one other caliber comparison. Can't remember those 2 though.

What is your reason/s for considering either in the first place, if I might ask that is? Just for something different in an AR style design or what?

I see 6.8 uppers in SGN for under $500. I haven't looked lately, but I think there is more reloading options for the 6.8, plus more commercial ammo available.

6.8 is more abundant, but 6.5 is a much more powerful round. Both are very very pricey.

The history of firearms is paved with good cartridges that just did not make it in the marketplace.

There is nothing wrong with these cartridges but note they are not
really "in" the marketplace in the sense of an established cartridge
such as the .308, .30-06, .243, etc.

They could go on to be very popular or they could fade away quickly if demand does not take off. If you choose either of them at present
you have the risk factor.
