Rimfire - firing pin

Just a quick and simple question. I have a mate who owns a CZ .22 varm and he has told me that he has read that the CZ rimfire is fine to dryfire. Apparently the firing pin will never break....

is he right in saying this?

Breakage isn't my worry - it's the firing pin dinging the chamber mouth, causing a burr that can cause extraction issues. I had this happen with a Marlin bolt-action. I'd suggest using empty cases to 'dry fire' with, if you must do it.

^ what they said. Dry firing will blunt your firing pin and if it doesn't cause ejection issues, it will almost certainly eventually not fire some rds because the pin isn't penetrating far enough into the primer. Use a fired shell(be sure to clean it so not to scratch your chamber with any dirt that may be on it) and you risk nothing.

Had the same problem as big dog, with a Marlin bolt-action to boot.In my case, the firing pin actually bent over time from dry-firing, causing many misfires. Don't dry fire a .22, or any rimfire.

my cz 452varmint manual says to dry fire it after unloading and before storage.

Some designs allow dryfiring with out peening the chamber or beating the firing pin...JMJ--

Shucks just buy the dummy round made for such things it springs back unlike a fired case and cost very little, under $10.
