| The Dishwasher cleaning method
Just want to hear from those who have used the dishwasher to clean the cosmo from the metal parts of their SKS rifles. If you've used this method, is there anything to watch out for? Also, how did the dishwasher look afterward? (I'm married) |

May want to read the sticky under the mosin forum if you have not done so already. May save a marriage.

DO NOT let the Task Master (aka 'Wife'!) see you do this. Hope the doghouse is comfy . . . ![]() I've read that cosmo can get into the workings of the washer - not a good thing. Cosmo is a glorified relative of Petroleum Jelly. It dissolves nicely under mineral spirits.

Thanks Tex, Big Dog, and SwedeSteve. I'll definitely go with the mineral spirits for cleaning the SKS. Wifey knew something was afoot anyhow. |

it wont hurt anything and wont harm the stock and theres nothing left in the dishwasher afterwards either, if you let it run thru dry cycle it raises any dents in the wood, as for soap...seems to woork with or without it just as good. it will raise the grain and some lite sanding will be in order but no big deal

LoL!! Have used the dishwasher for years to clean Corvette and Harley parts. But only when the GF or SO were gone shopping. Got busted one afternoon when she came home early....so when I built my shop guess what the first thing that was plumbed in...yep, a dishwasher. Nah, not a new one. Got the one from the kitchen cause she wanted the new one. I don't see why it wouldn't work on gun parts.!!!!! But better blow dry it good and really oil it down cause that water will get in places you didn't know were places. o~\o |
