Michiganders: Can you still carry in a state park?

Does any Michigander here know if the rule stated below remains current?

"4. Does my valid Concealed Pistol License allow me to carry a concealed pistol in a state park?
Yes. MCL 324.504 states that the DNR cannot promulgate or enforce a rule that prohibits a ccw holder from carrying on property under the control of the DNR."

I truly believe it! It's not bad for me here in the land of the SEC...Vols tolerate me being a wolverine fan much better than being a gator or bulldog..its the OSU fans here that really get to hoopin and hollerin and honking away...its hilarious. SORRY about your son working at OSU, lol.

A.H.- one of the bills being presented here is to allow permit holders to carry in state parks..from what I am hearing, its pretty much dead. Because of safety issues, I will not take my children to any of the larger parks alone. I travel to Michigan often and enjoy the fact that I can remained armed in a Mi. state park.

Smile Lady Vol

MrsS,

Michigan is one of the best CCW and reciprocity States in the Union.

We have a no retreat law, "stand your ground" with another law that protects from civil law suits brought by "ambulance chasers"

So come on in. The water is warm.

Enjoy!

go blue for you, go green for me, lets not call the whole thing off.

Mosin...I know TN has recip with Michigan...I can also drive through Kentucky and Ohio because of that. I know TN has a similiar "castle" doctrine in place that sounds about the same as what you mentioned above.

Now, may I give you a few FYI's, sir? lol:

1. I am NO vol!!! hehehehe.......

2. The waters of Michigan never, ever get warm enough for me!(But I love the fishing).

3. Up until 4 years ago, I called Michigan home with family who still reside there.(Get homesick sometimes but then I think about the economy and the population and that bumps me right out of that depressed mood).

4. We will definently talk about the blue and green in the fall!

I am NO lady vol!!! hehehehe.......

BLAST!!! MrsS,

You are a enigma for sure. FUN.

So Im glad you are realy Michigan, after all.

Working out of state. Sorry for that. I "know" why and how you and many thousands of Michiganders are suffering. Those that left too.

We cant all leave.

The daily news tells it all. More plants closing. It is sad. Compare us to the rest of the F, uped nation and Washington DC. Its a no winner.

Your right. You left one depression for another. One Michgandger to another. WHEW! I know it hurts. Who knew. Im to depressed to spell check, sorry.

Mosin..I actually left because I married a southerner. I am a registered nurse so my job is in demand anywhere.

I did not mean to bring anything depressing up....here, to make you feel better--your son's employer (OSU) is a very good college with a strong Big Ten history they can be proud of (gulp).

As for Michigan....the 4 great lakes around the state are pretty awesome!(No other state can claim that).

Dont start me on who you married, why?. "Southerner"

Ive got my own scars there. GEEEE!!!

michigan is a great place besides the mass migration of people and the failing of our economy. but for the most part the people are friendly as long as you dont say you are a buckeye then prepare to defend yourself.

Michigan Pistol Free Zones

This has to do with the current law in Michigan.

We have state parks. But, read and learn. Pistol free zones.

MSP - Pistol Free Areas

P.S. Watch for business establishments who post "NO GUNS" or "NO CCW"

You can have your weapon siezed and face fines and a revoked liscense etc.

What if its not posted in an area where it can easily be seen? Does that absolve the carrier from any liability if "no firearm" is not listed in a prominant place?

Another question that is related; on my last visit to Mi. I went to a gun dealer who stated that with a HCP, a background check is not necessary; I reviewed the above link and found this:

5. In Michigan, what is a License to Purchase and is one needed in every case where a pistol is acquired?
MCL 28.422 A License to Purchase is a license required prior to acquisition of a pistol by purchase or gift. The important part of the License to Purchase is the affidavit signed by the purchaser swearing to their own qualifications. A License to Purchase is not needed for anyone with a valid Concealed Pistol License, for firearms dealers purchasing from wholesalers, or for relics, curios, antiques, etc., not made for modern ammunition.

My question is this: being a resident of TN with a TN HCP, can I purchase a handgun in MI and not have to go through a background check or other types of waiting periods, etc? My husband was interested in purchasing a gun while in Mi. and the dealer started talking bout getting it transferred to a TN gun dealer, for a fee, of course.

NO WAY

MrsS, the gun dealer in Michigan was correct, your Hubby cannot buy a gun here and then transport across State lines. It must be registerd in Michigan and saftey inspected in Michigan after purchase.

Non residents dont meet that statute. Your hubby could order a gun from a FFL thru another and have it shipped to TN, But that is not your question.

Exceptions would be FFL's wholesalers etc. But you do not qualify in that aspect.

Thank you so much for taking time and effort to answer all, mosin: I am working hard to learn the laws in both TN and MI and it has been trying!
