| Senior Member | Well, I'm a couple months late commenting on this, but here goes. I have a 7mm Mag. and a 280 Rem.. When it was time to go deer hunting I always grabbed the 280. A good cartridge. However, if you are shooting 400 yards, I would have a look at the 7mm Mags., or even the 300 mags. Better long range performance that the 270 or the 280. I took my 7 Mag. this year to Mexico for Deer and it performed very well, 1 shot done. Shot was right at 190 yards and I was quite please with my shot and the results. Another good option would be the 270 Wby., or 7mm Wby., both very good long range cartridges. Consistent hits in a vital area cannot be considered the norm at these distances, too many variables. There are very few places where I would take a 400 or 400 + yard shot. Too many factors to consider, e.g., wind speed/direction, elevation to target, distance, ballistics knowledge of your load etc., etc.. I shot a few deer with them in the 90s. I can't say how many. 20-30 maybe? Maybe more. I hand load. Always had solid results on deer. They don't make the 140 anymore, but I found a box I had never opened with 100 in it. I'm working on those and will take some deer with it next year. This is why I'm now loading them again. 3 shots at 100yds. ![]() The velocity was a tad high so I backed off a grain and got down to where I wanted, with similar accuracy results. | |

| Senior Member | I don't know when you bought them, and can't recall exactly when Nosler discontinued them. They brought back the 150, but not the 140 last year I think. The 150 shoots well for me too, but I've never taken game with them. I suspect it's a good cup and core bullet though. |

| Senior Member ![]() | My uncle gave me his .280 and it performs really well. I would not have bought one as I have a .30-06 and that works just as well as far as hunting is concerned. For me, that is.
