with the 22lr, shot placement is more important than the bullet weight. Know the rifle, and the arc that it shoots. Know exactly where it will kit at any distance you are going to shoot, and if possible, measure of the distance to landmarks for reference when you set up to shoot. My experiance with 22lr semi autos is they are finnicky, and between cleaning them, matching the ammo, and hopeing it will cycle isn't worth it. Give me a nice bolt, or even a lever action. Of course for trapping, I carry a revolver, and use 22 shorts, except for skunk, then I go back to the truck for a rifle.
